Re: Welcome to the Bulldogs: Bailey Smith

According to Sam Edmund, Smith had his exit interview and said he has no intentions of leaving and will honour his contract.

It might be my cynicism talking, but that statement is a bit lonely for me.
It is missing a follow-up one that references his keenness to sign a new deal as he loves the group and the club!

Josh Dunkley honoured his contract with us too, eventually.
I want a bit more from Baz.

I read it the same way too, fwiw.

I wouldn't read anything into it, unless we hear from the man himself.

Me too, It's just Dunkley all over again and we'll end up getting scraps again.

That’s the dilemma. I suspect stuff will go in the background the next few weeks and the club should be a little nervous after the experience of holding onto Dunkley to get the little we got.

I guess we see if the club gets offers it might want to consider. Or wait to see if he “sees out his contract” or extends it next year.

Well - a year out Dunkley attended his review and said: "Bevo...Babe...have you heard of the Bombers...howz about letting me go and play there...".

Sounds like Smith has said: "I'm good to go and I'll be here if you want me".

Of course, Dunks went on to win a B&F the next year and STILL left to play for the Lions but right now isn't Smith ahead of him on the commitment scale given what Edmund is reporting is correct?
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

I guess Dunkley didn't request a trade until trade week started so we've still got a bit of time.

Feels like the Dogs have said you aren't getting traded and Smith has said he see out the remainder of his contract and then the balls in his court.

Agreed - or his agents have put feelers out and the clubs that Smith might be interested in don't feel like they can get the deal done this year. It'd make no sense for Smith and his agency to request a trade that ultimately can't get done and he has to live with a year of speculation and questions from fans and the media.

I think his Manager would have said see out your contract and have a massive year and boost your value. At the minute a few clubs maybe gun shy with your personal issues and form.

Unfortunately for us, his management team of Paul Connors and Robbie D'orazio are the best in the business and getting deals done.
If Smith does want out the preferred club will have picks/players to get a trade done.
More of an In Bruges guy?

Also no one knows if he has ever said he wants to leave. The best place for him maybe what he knows and with the new facilities and hopefully playing well enough to get more midfield time he stays. We won't know but those jungle drums will be beating loud until he does decide what he wants to do.
