Re: WB Game Day V GWS Giants R8 2023 Sat 6/5, 7:25PM - Manuka Oval, Canberra
See - this is where you and I have geometrically opposite versions of what is required to play football as part of a successful side.
I have no issue if you are beat. That's fine. But to simply STOP CHASING (and never really chase to begin with in the case of English)...well, there's no excuse for that. And if you fast forward 5 mins from the XOH goal English actually wins possession of the ball and takes off - including a running bounce - and quite literally 3x the speed he 'chased' (well, 'jogged in the same direction as' would be a better description) as O'Halloran.
This is the effort stuff that plagues us mate. It is not just the effort though - it is the body language that goes with it. If one person stops fighting for their seat on the bus (in every game there are 36 players but only 18 chairs!) and lets their oppo have it, well - that sends a message to the rest of their mates it's ok to simply stop fighting.
The 'optics' need to be right. Can't keep up? Cool. Run as FAST AS YOU CAN in trying. Make it clear that it is still important to you.
All of this stuff aside, I'm really happy with the way we're playing right now and am certainly on the side of 'beating GWS on a rainy Sat night in Canberra is a GOOD OUTCOME'...
My original response was about STRUCTURE when I was basically saying we were/are structured up well pretty much all night - but sometimes poor efforts/lack of concentration cause things to look like the structures/set-ups are broken...
