We have a current president who has spent her entire career as part of the world's largest global entertainment behemoth (without any real life exposure outside of that very homogeneous, globalist culture), and a CEO who completed an AFEL Executive Leadership Program. These two will always lay low and be a small target, so as not to jeapoedise future executive board positions. And sometimes that is not good enough IMO.
Frankly, reasons why they should keep out of the limelight, footy's unique. In my experience, traditionally, Board members were groomed and selected from members of sub-groups like Topdogs, Westerners and specific issue groups like Keep Footscray-at-Footscray. There was merit in that process. It's healthy to have a process that educates potential members of administration but accepts outside influences. I liked the 2 ICI reps on the post takeover Board, even the fat bloke with the pony tail. I like Granty and Darce being involved, Sam Power and his Work. I'm unsure about the current Board and administration, have any come up through the traditional system ? Gee I hope this is another lost game and not an existential crisis.

I hope it is more the latter than the former to be honest. There is clearly a major disconnect within the organisation that needs to be addressed and acknowledged.

This is not to disparage West Coast because they played really well and to a clear plan yesterday, but they have no incentive to win anything for the remainder of this year, their coach is just about out the door and they have been non-competitive for the vast majority of the season (including by 100+ points 7 days earlier, their 5th such loss this season alone). If losing at home with everything to play for under those circumstances is not an existential crisis, I'm not sure what is.

Supporting the 'dogs includes an an 'up your's' implication, some (points at you, younger Peter Gordon) take it further than necessary but it's always there. Our Club has pioneered ways of distressing supporters, World Champions. If Bev's the problem, quietly. If it's the too-many-underperforming-forwards, it is, trade them out.

I'm not sure what he's saying when he says we are performing well against the top sides? He went to that well a couple of times which seems pre-canned.

Our record against the top 8 is horrendous.

I like Grant, just not sure the messaging was right with that.

I think what he is alluding too is that we actually played OK against Port in Adelaide and pushed the Pies to 12 points. We also beat the Lions. So outside of Round #1 against the Demons, we have actually been competitive against the top sides albeit not getting the chocolates most of the time.

Granty's been in a good paddock since his playing days, if that's anything to go by.

I think that's artistic license AP

Against the Pies it was a 13 goal to 1 run against. The final score was flattering.

Lions game we didn't have to confect feeling as Dunkley did that for us! The tale of the salty dog hey (cant teach that comedy)

Port did the double over us.

                  Dees smashed us.

It doesn't really convey the reality, it's a nice way to sell it however our record stands for all to see.

Oh yeah thanks- totally agree with your take.

Is this part of the problem? Reality and their (the execs) reality are poles apart.

We are close....Well ok maybe, but we aren't though right as our record against teams that were in the top 8 when we played them is really really bad.

Also saying we are close to the top 4 sides (which I don't agree with) deflects from the fact we have lost to 16th and 18th when finals were on the line.

Not defending his role or tenure and think he should be probably moved on. He has been there for a long time and he owns a lot of the current situation.

But with one game to play, with finals still a live possibility, I'm not too sure what he could actually say. He spoke OK, meek at times, but did state they will make the hard decisions and they have been reviewing things since the bye due to "consistent inconsistencies".

So I went down a rabbit warren last night (I know, I know, searching for answers, I think there is something wrong with me) . Looking at the Telstra Tracker data. I know we only get a small snippet of the data.

Let's look at the game against the Eagles.

                              Most KM covered

                              Edwards 14.8
                              Hunt 17.7
                              JOD 14.6
                              Gaff 14.5
                              Long 14.4

One Bulldog. (Against the Hawks we had zero. But to be fair let's also look at a game we won. Say Richmond. We had zero.).

                              High Speed Distance

                              Edwards 3.5
                              Gaff 2.9
                              Jones 2.6
                              Hunt 2.6
                              Long 2.5

Zero Bulldogs. (Against the Hawks we had Zero. Against Tigers we had Zero.).

                              Sprinting Efforts

                              Hunt 27
                              Rotham 25
                              Edwards 23
                              Baker 21
                              Jones 20

One Bulldog. (Against the Hawks we had only one also, Richards. Against the Tigers we had zero.)

                              Repeat Sprint Efforts

                              Edwards 5
                              Rotham 5
                              Vanda 4
                              Hunt 4
                              Duryea 3

Two Bulldogs. (Against the Hawks we had zero. Against the Tigers we had two, VDM and Dale).

                              Team Repeat Sprints

                              Bulldogs 25
                              Eagles 31

Against Hawks we lost this stat 31 v 20. Against the Tigers we lost this stat 33 v 25.

So then I proceeded to look at every game throughout the season the results are always similar. We rarely have players at the top of these stats. You can also see why certain players are selected even when they don't have a big impact in regards to racking up numbers as they have certain athletic running ability (e.g. Arty Jones, VDM etc.). You can also see why we are getting torched on the turnover and transition game. Teams are out running us.

Bevo in his presser mentioned about the athletic profile of the team on the weekend (hence my rabbit hole). So my questions are.

                              a) Do we just not have athletic runners?

                              b) Do we have lazy players who are not running hard enough?

                              c) Is there something wrong with out fitness/running training that isn't allowing us to match other team's running ability?
