Re: WOOF welcomes Joel Freijah to the Kennel

You could see earlier in the season playing VFL what he is showing now at AFL level, his stand out back then to me was his poise, always looked like he had so much time to go along with the decision making and skills, he'll be a ripper.

Surely deserving of a bit of Rising star nomination action this week.

If he put an extra metre on that last kick he took from the intercepted handball in the last quarter it would have been a career highlight play for him.
There are certainly some of those vibes about him but athletically he's got a great blend of pace and endurance about him. I really appreciate that he doesn't make the same mistakes that some other youngsters do by falling over in contests.
His progress this year has been impressive and somewhat unexpected.

            He's a very good 18 year old. Plays like a 50-gamer already.

Outside of his footy skills, I?ve been surprised by a ?show of aggression? he usually displays in each game. Watch him carefully when he walks past a big name player and gives them a shove (to let them know they?re in a competitive game). I wouldn?t have expected this from an 18 yo first year player.
There is no sadder sight than a young pessimist.

The 'Fridge' is fast becoming one of my favs. He hardly loses a contest, usually halves and often wins them. My guess is that he is one of those bodies with an extra long reach which is what enables him to out mark the opposition frequently. Similar to Darcy, when you think you are going to get to a contest and have an easy fist on the ball, he stretches to mark cleanly and your left wondering how you didnt get to the ball. Still can't get over how consistent he is for an 18yo.

Just goes about his business with a minimum of fuss. I echo your thoughts regarding Freijah.

I'm not sure I can articulate why, but he reminds me of a cross between Shaggy Hargrave and Rohan Smith.

Been a really good first season from Joel. Moves very well where he has played off half back. We look to have found a good one here and I look forward to seeing more of his progression.

Another woofer (apologies cannot remember whom) noted Frejiah reminds them of WC’s Andrew Embley. I don’t watch a lot of other team’s games but I agree. Even same height & similar build. Think we’ve found ourselves a gem. You could see it in VFL from the get go; floats across ground, generally good judgement & skills including marking and evasive skills.

I e always thought of Embley as a cherry picking wuss. I?m probably wrong in my views (maybe they?re tainted because he didn?t play for the Dogs).
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

He was one of the first real "tall " wingers who ended up with a Norm Smith medal and played for Australia. He could seriously play. If Freijah gets near that we'd be seriously happy.
