He's like Midas. When he gets the ball good things happen. Like I said earlier he is a key ingredient to this team.

Khamis - has earned a game in Round 1 imo
      Coffield - yes
      Bramble - not yet
      Daniel - automatic selection
      Vandermeer - VFL beckons
McNeil - couldn't kick a goal if the big posts were 50m apart, good effort though, should do well in VFL.

Re: Western Bulldogs vs Hawthorn - Community Series 2/03/24

Whilst I wasn't happy with the goalkicking in the first half, or the ease with which Hawthorn were able to transition from defense to forward in the second quarter, I just can't help thinking that stuff really is irrelevant to the large extent in a praccy. Even if you are trying to fine tune and get ready for round 1.

Overall I think it was almost exactly what you want to see from a preseason hitout:
        • no injuries
        • best players hitting form
        • team having to problem solve
        • team successfully problem solving!
        • and once more, no injuries

I think we achieved all of that.

Lots of other teams right now would love to have our level of list health, displayed form, and the team mostly doing what they appear to be being instructed to do.

Good to see new recruits Sanders, Bramble and Coffield fitting in already.

Gallagher did okay, but he and VDM would be candidates for sitting out in Rnd 1 to perhaps make way for JOD and Macrae?

I'm not 100% Macrae makes it into our early season best 22. I wonder whether he's got new career challenge being thrown his way and he's going to have to relearn 'what a good game looks like for him in his mind' to pick up on a theme MJP has spoken about.
Something Bevo said pre-game in passing about this game looking like a test for Rnd 1, and that therefore it might surprise some as to those players who are not in the team today.

I only had on in the background but great to see/hear Westy had some nice moments, finally he will be in a round1 side.

I'm going to watch the replay soon did we notice any significant changes in game style? Still look like it was over the back city in the first half?

The one where the AFL throw millions at him that we can’t match to join Tasmania more like.

We were more direct in the 2nd half and stopped their run on as well. Thus negating McNeil?s effectiveness.

Him and Westy are lock ins for round 1
This was how I saw it too. I really don?t get the McNeil hate. He missed two goals he should have got, but he was otherwise pretty good. Both he and West looked pretty sharp and provided opportunities for teammates and likely did enough to play round 1.

Has Naughty ever moved better? He made three attempts to close down his opponent on the wing in the second half just looking really mobile like at the kennel last week.

The major issue for us is that its another game were we went missing for a quarter and once again relied on Bont and Libba to spark us.

Its time for us to beat Melbourne in round 1 no excuses...

Clarke wasn?t great yesterday agree but still plenty of the ball and a few goal assists. Playing the toughest position and when young going to be inconsistencies. Last week he was electric. He will play a few games this year and I guarantee a few pre seasons under his belt he will be a very good small/medium fwd.

Re: Western Bulldogs vs Hawthorn - Community Series 2/03/24

Was similar to last weeks WO game where the Hawks took over in the 2nd quarter, but apart from that we were too strong for the rest of the game, had we kicked straight who knows, may have been a complete blowout.

My only real disappointment apart from allowing them to take over in the 2nd term and the first half inaccuracy in front of goals was not giving Cleary a run, being a praccy game one would think all players would get some time on the ground, Daniel came on after half time, could have given Doc or Buku or Coff a rest for the last quarter, Darcy was obviously playing VFL, not sure if Baker was there? give him a run.

Good to see Cody and Westy get into the game in the 2nd half as both did bugger all in the first half, thought McNeil was solid but left his goal kicking boots at Whitten Oval, also up until half time i had Darcy playing round 1 given it sounds like he played well for Footscray but fortunately Lobb got more active in the 2nd half, going to be tough call for selectors.

Not too sure if MacRae plays round 1, quite liked the midfield mix we had plus who's spot does he take? Sanders is 100% a lock and i like what Harmes brings.

Also a tough call with JOD if ready, liked Buku's game too, yeah a little undersized but the Dee's don't exactly have big power forwards.

Naughton is back!!! running freely, jumping at will, it's like he's been playing injured for the past few seasons, having him up the ground more suits his game so much better than closer to goal with Jamarra deep, also having that luxury of having a 200 plus cm Darcy, English or Lobb will eventually be some sight when the forward line starts to gel, buckle up people.

My concern in the last quarter was Jamarra or Naughts injuring themselves, the confidence was high and they were jumping at everything, Jamarra even looked like he grabbed at his elbow after taking that hanger near the wing.

Great hit out though and certainly gives us confidence going into the season that things can turn around.
