Adelaide almost beat Geelong at Sedat Park last week, they're a better team than their ladder position suggests. If we drop the Roos game I'll be livid, of course, but Adelaide in Adelaide on a Sunday night is always going to be tough.
It was a really disappointing performance but we are all signing off on 4-1 after the Port loss. We've used our one Mulligan for the rest of the season - I still think we have a big part to play in 2024.

Nobody does a short preparation better than Bevo. He got us a flag and a nearly-flag off short preps.

Thought it was good leadership from Caleb to come in and have an impact with his composure when the chips were down.

I think that’s why I’m not super upset tonight, although I’m concerned by English’s drop in competitiveness (if he is in moon boot and injury happened early on that could explain it). If you had of told me after Port match we’d win 4 and lose 1 of next 5 matches and be a chance of lower part of top 8 I’d have said yes please. On the other hand I’d hate to see us lose vs North and I’m hoping we stick it right up GWS. Should this eventuate then clock restarts and who knows what could happen after that.

Bevo and MC and effort of team have given me a fair bit of hope for future, including debuts of some promising players drafted or traded in and the improvement of others. I just hope some of that isn’t dashed by poor performances in next few weeks.

Buss could be in for a debut against North had a very good game in the VFL and has been playing well for the last few weeks.
He could easily replacer Coffield or Buku in the back line.

We had so many players down in this match. I could only give a pass mark to the following: McNeil, Bramble, Treloar, Bont, Bramble, Darcy, Coulter, Williams and Daniel. Too many passengers on the bus.

Not one player had an outstanding game and Adelaide had perhaps 6 players who were better than our best player. It was a total demolition. It sets the stage for Bevo to channel his "Phoenix Rising" mojo and get us up and about again.

So what are we going to get? Phoenix Rising or Lead Balloon?

I would be surprised if English was in a moon boot purely based on Bevo's thoughts on English during his pressa.

Read post on BF that a supporter saw him in moon boot at airport. BF not very reliable so yeah, agree. Tim was really, really poor.

Bevo didn't mince his words at the end of the presser, and he has been as strong a supporter of English as anyone (arguably too much). You just cannot have your no 1 ruckman being so utterly non-competitive, against an opponent who has already been dropped this year no less.

Tim was very poor yesterday in the ruck beaten by the AFL's leading ruck in Hitouts as well as HTA. 51% of his HO are HTA - that is what you want from your ruckman. He is not brilliant around the ground and that is why he was dropped earlier in the year.

Let’s face it we have a history of letting a very average footballer dominate us and never be seen again.

It wasn?t the hitouts that were the biggest issue (though O?Brien gave his mids silver platter service and our blokes let them enjoy their feast), it was Timmy?s lack of contest/effort etc whatever you want to call it, around the ground. Multiple times O?Brien took critical marks down the line to open up play, particularly when we?d generated some momentum. He also found himself in space too often and actually made himself useful in transition. That?s embarrassing for Tim, given the contrast in styles and athletic abilities.

English was our worst player on the ground* The ruck role (not just hit outs but all of it) is important ya?ll.

*dishonourable mention to Naughts, Richards, Buku & VDM
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

English is 27yo. It is unfathomable that a player with his prodigious athletic gifts and many years of hardened senior experience and age profile can continue to be so easily overwhelmed by his direct opponent. His 'bad' games are off the charts non-competitive, and they happen too often for a player of his age and obvious ability. They happen against different types as well - Lycett smashed him last year, who was so old and banged up he has since retired.
