Re: Our ruck stocks?
WITH his AFL playing days in doubt, it seems that should Western Bulldogs' ruckman Peter Street leave the kennel he is hardly likely to fall on hard times. The word out of the city of churches this week is that a number of South Australian clubs are interested in the 28-year-old's services to the point that a mini bidding war may see him become the local league's first six-figure man, with $100,000 a year being bandied around for a three-year deal. Re: Our ruck stocks?
The rucks are interesting and if anything this trade week has made me feel that you need to get a few on your list because they are very expensive
You only have to look at the price Collingwood payed for Cameron Wood last year to know it
Seaby is a handy player and one who I think is ok, apart from the hair, but I'm yet to see him as a real difference maker, and to think West Coast want a first round pick from him
I've seen so little of Warnock, but he was a relatively high pick whom the Dockers have nurtured so I can understand them wanting some return on investment in him as he probably close to being ready to contribute consistentlyComment

Re: Our ruck stocks?
Seaby would be a good get as he is only 24 years old and can play. He has been unlucky to have the best ruckman in the AFL at the club he plays for. A bit like the reason Barry Round left us as he wanted to be number one, but we had a handy player in Gary Dempsey. The rucks are interesting and if anything this trade week has made me feel that you need to get a few on your list because they are very expensive

Re: Our ruck stocks?
We certainly can't count on Skipper being in form. Has he ever been in form?As far as I can remember, he hasn't done even regular forward line ruck work at the Eagles.
I still think we need to find someone capable of doing a job like Michael Rix did for the Saints because we can't rely on Skipper being fit and in form if either of the other two are missing. Heaven help us if both of them are out.
I still remember back to when both Wight and Morgan got injured when asked to do a spell in the ruck. It's a specialised position and I don't think our current list covers it.Comment

Re: Our ruck stocks?
I'm all for recognising Skippers limitations as a player but I completely agree - his 08 was completely decimated by injury, he missed the whole preseason with a broken foot, got back played 6 weeks or so and did a grade 2 medial ligament, missed 6-8 weeks and then came back again
At no stage could he really ever have been physically in good nick in 08Comment

Re: Our ruck stocks?
I tend to agree with the OP, that our ruck stocks look increasingly thin, at least for the short term. With Mulligan, Shaw and now Cordy we have some longer-term developing options, but if we were struck down with injuries to Minson, Hudson or Skipper, the cupboard would be completely bare.
IMO, we need one more 'ruck' on the list, be it senior list or rookie list, who would be able to play in 2009 if required.Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?Comment

Forget trading for hacks - if they're not good enough elsehere, they're not good enough for us.
A sensible policy is to always have 2 developing big blokes at the club at all times. Unless they're the Kreuzer type they take time.
I would keep Mulligan at least and either Shaw or another Rookie on the Rookie list.
Skipper is there for depth.Comment
