    Just a thought though..

Barry quit the swans and retired..

Doesn't that mean he's just gunna nominate for PSD and only cost us one of our last 2 picks if no-one else is interested? Which also means we dont have to give Sydney sfa?

If he goes through to the PSD, we have no guarantee whatsoever that he'll be a Bulldog.

If we trade for him he becomes a Bulldog in October whereas the PSD isn't until December.

Boy, the silly season has begun!...

Poor old Brad Johnson might have to retire to free up cap space for Pavlich, and lake has to already take a pay cut just after agreeing to terms!

Ah makes sense, if we wanna secure him trade Sydney some nuts. If we dont have a huge interest lets see if we can snag him with a late 3rd/4th in the PSD

What Coon Dog said, plus we are not in the business to screw other teams over, it's very important to have a healthy relationship with other clubs, which we seem to have over the past few seasons with the way Rocket had traded, and not want to end up like Hawks or Pies in the past, and end up with clubs not wanting to have a bar of you.

That said, alot of people are going crazy on Big Footy thinking Barry Hall will cost us the earth, relating a possible trade with Everitt or what we recieve in return, is so far off the mark it's not funny.

Most likely senario will possibly be a swap of LATE draft picks and a fringe player, a player that may be likely to be delisted anyway that the Swans may want to take a punt on.

The Swans just can't play hardball given the situation, but at the same time, we won't bend them over.

Sorry but you couldnt be anymore off the mark. Your implying if we had Pavlich he would have kicked 6 goals+..against the defence of StKilda? I think your more than dreaming. Yes, a tall forward would have helped but we still kicked inaccurately and the delivery of long bombing wouldn't have always resulted in a Pavlich mark & goal if we had him..

Reading this -- it's not as fanciful as it seems. As I've implied in the OP, I believe that Pav is every bit St. Nick's equal (if not his superior). Same marking ability, same tank, greater athleticism (thus an ability to play on the ball that Riewoldt doesn't have), tougher under pressure. Pav just doesn't have the profile Nick doesbecause he doesn't play in Melbourne, and he plays for a crap team.

Given that Riewoldt kicked 4 goals despite the Saints (other than Hayes) being generally outplayed all around the ground, why would it be too fanciful to assume a similar output from Pav if he were a Dog?

Three of Nick's four goals came from hopeful long punts to the hotspot (the other one from a umpiring brain fart), two of which he marked, and one (the last one) that he kicked off the ground after a melee caused by defenders panicking around him. These types of goals are PRECISELY the ones we are missing -- almost every hopeful kick to the hotspot by the Dogs were mopped up by Fisher and Dawson, who wouldn't have a similar armchair ride if they were up against a Pavlich instead of a Hahn or Johnson (no disrespect to the skip).

I don't think it would be fanciful to suggest that Zac Dawson would have been monstered by Matthew Pavlich with the extra ball we had coming into the forward 50, which we generally wasted on the night.

Re: An Open Letter to Matthew Pavlich

The PAV playing for the dogs will be a real dream. His presence and potential will be enough for the SAINTS defenders to be too worried about him, ie leaving your man and going 3rd man up. This also mean our other forwards is free and ready for a shot if the ball falls our way. PAV can contest 5 pack marks and need to take only 1, but importantly the other 4 will be spilled with alot of defenders falling down aswell to outcompete him.

We have around $250k that we arent paying for an ambassadorial role or something like that while still running at a profit, for a flag and the financial benefits flowing from that i am sure that the club would manage to find that extra cash for a Pav or someone similar. I am quite certain we would have at least 5000 extra members and quite a few extra social club memberships next year if we were to sign Pav so that covers a third of his wage. It isnt totally out of the realms of possibility

I like it Latern i like it very much. I konw we don't have the cap space but if Pav gave the trade the green light they would find the space some how.

The swans need pace so give them Lynch for Hall.
