Barry Hall: A definite chance for Coleman

I know, I know what am i on about. But i think its a definite possibility. Think about it before he was sidelined by Sydney for the punch-up with Adelaide's Ben Rutten, he was in the top five for goal scoring. With a team like sydney where they dont have the class mid-fielders we have and with the amount of ball coming into the foward line. We are the highest scoring team this season and Bazza will give us the edge. It could well be a blessing. When Barry was a boy, he barracked for the Doggies and he desperate to make amends and revive his career. I reckon if he can get his head straight he is deinite chance for the Coleman medal.

    What do you think?

I'll just be happy if he contributes, be it kicking goals, blocking for a team mate, dishing off, bringing the ball to ground, chasing, tackling or shepherding.

I think with Rockets multi-pronged attack a great season would be 50 goals from him. Unless we kick a truly ridiculous amount of goals which we are capable of doing.

I guess while Rocket was coaching us Johnno kicked 74 (?), but we've changed our ways since then.

          Fevola won the Coleman at the Blues. He was pretty much the lone option. At the dogs we had;
          Jason Akermanis- 39 (goals)
          Brad Johnson-33
          Josh Hill-32
          Mitchell Hahn-32
          Shaun Higgins-27
          Lindsay Gilbee-22
          Daniel Giansiracusa-20
          Scott Welsh-19
          Callan Ward-16
          Matthew Boyd-15
          Ryan Griffen-15
          Will Minson-15
          Nathan Eagleton-15
          Adam Cooney-13
          Robert Murphy-10
Where do you see all these extra goals coming from? (apart from Welsh retiring)

We can definitly rely on him to take some contested marks for us. If he can convert it, thats just as well. Thats where the extra goals will come from. Anyway if he doesnt kick those goals i'll be just as happy with him assisting.

No chance. Eade himself said his role is not to kick 70 or 80. Eade doesn't want to change a gameplan that has been the highest scoring for many years. He presents another good option and a tall target for our pressure release kick. 50 goals at best. No chance at all.

Good point. Regarding the free kicks, the Dogs averaged the least free kicks against in 2009 (15.9 per game). Hall averaged 2.2 free kicks against in 2009. Hopefully we can change his ways. (the free kicks part, not the gun forward part)

                    We can?

This year Hall played 11 games, but in 5 of those games he didn't register a contested mark.

Hall will add many things to our forwardline next year, but I don't think the ability to take 'big' contested marks will be one of those.

Have we recruited this bloke too?

                      More a midfielder, I understand.

His 15 contested marks in 11 games this year still earnt him the 5th highest average in the league.

I think we'd look for a similar output to what Welsh gave us in 2008

Welsh booted 43 in 2008 and was a good performer in terms of forward line pressure

With Hall being a bigger bodied and taller player I think we'd hope he throw his weight around more, particularly in big games, but there is no need, nor should there be any expectation about winning Colemans.

I am hoping Halls major achievements with us will team achivements.

As a matter of interest, how much have you all seen of Hall over the years, both TV games and live?

I thinkif he kicks 50 it would be a terrific effort... if he kicks less, but creates opportunities, makes contests, blocks for teammates, feeds open players, and pressures the ball inside 50 I'll be happy. Just his presence will change how opponents play our forwards. Can't see him winning the Coleman. Wouldn't want to see him kick a heap of goals whilst we drop games, which can happen (Fev, anyone?)
