Yep.

We dominated the game for 3 & 1/2 quarters and although St.Kilda did they their to clog us up we really should have been 6+ goals up at the 15 minute mark of the last quarter.

At some point we will belt St.Kilda by 10 goals and preferably that is deep in September.

Agree no off spin in that quote... Confident we will get them next time

Yes it is depressing. Good teams win the close games. I can understand over the years when we haven't been up to it but we have been a good team for most of the time that Rocket has been coach yet we still can't get the job done when it counts.
We have a poor finals record. We lose the close matches. I hate to criticize when I don't have an alternative but unfortunately I haven't.

If I hear one more time "We had our chances" I'll spew up.

I mustn't have looked at footy as closely back then, as I'll (embarassingly) admit I didn't even notice that night (and I was there) I was a little surprised to hear all the hum-bug in the media over the rest of the weekend at the time.

The skill of the flood has been refined which in part explains the lower scoring.

Our inability to hurt the Saints when we should have cost us the win and they would have looked like fools if we had beaten them by 20 plus points.

All Ross Lyon has to say now when questioned about the tactics he employed is that it got the desired result. As you say, if we had beaten them rather comfortably (as we should have) his tactics would have looked silly.

In a strange way, it might just work out to our advantage in future as Lyon will surely figure it's worked before, therefore it must work again. Clearly it won't work every time.

Maybe it was a cunning plan after all, leading the Saints into a false sense of security.
Next time around we will roll out our trojan horse full of Boyds, Pickens and Wards.

There are really only two ways to beat the zone. Work through it slowly or kick over it.
Etihad plays to the Saints strengths, whereas they were beaten on a big wet oval by Port.
When you think about it, it's good ( in a way ) to lose now as it forces us to do a few things.

1. Get some discipline. What the **** is it with all these free kicks given by people who run through the mark???? Reign Barry in for gods sake. What was with that hand in the face stuff? He needs a good dressing down. Use the pain of the loss to look seriously, now while it is early in the season.
2. Go back to basics, now, before the sharp end of the season, learn from mistakes.
3. Get a fire in the belly about the saints. Study them day and night. Thrive on the passion.

I'm actually more concerned about Geelong and potentially Collingwood come September.
