Dahlhouse is excluded from this, but we seriously do not have a potential match winner in our side. there is nobody on our list who even looks like becoming a superstar. Some honest tryers yes, but matchwinners? No.

Continuing to persist with known spuds on our list isnt going to get us anywhere, lets just hope the massive broom sweeps through ASAP. Its time to play Hill, Talia, Campbell etc. because we cannot play any worse than we already are. We have nothing to lose and only to gain, these kids need game time. Grant, Addison, Higgins etc do not. (as well as the other list cloggers; hooper, mulligan, moles etc)
Liam Jones took some great contested marks. If he could only kick straight. Potential superstar IMO

I nearly smashed my TV when this happened. It was very very annoying to see picken attempt to play on boundary side when settling was clearly the best option.

Lake struggled today, as did a lot of our players. He's coming from a long way back mentally, though I hope it will only take a couple of good games strung together to get him back in to some form.

BTW - Nobody should listen to Drew Morphet. He's a fool.

That is the part of his game he needs to get better in. If he does get better at his kicking he will be a great player. I said in a post a while back that he is very much like Travis Cloke in that his kicking also isn't crash hot but his marking is very good.

I just got done watching the match, recorded it today. Had to go out, usually I'm unhappy about that, but I didn't mind so much today.

On a slightly serious note though, I think the drastic drop off in skill we are seeing this year is in large part due to the emphasis of getting bodies around the ball. The congestion close in makes clean handling and use difficult. I suspect though that this is something BMac is happy to accept, because the pressure it brings though ugly, once learnt will mean that the opposition will have to play at a similar intensity in order to compete.

How much pressure was there on the GWS kids today? Jogged down into our 50 and some of them didn't even look like they were breaking a sweat.

Lake was ok today with 22 disposals, some nice run and carry and some good marking. The ball didn't travel much into the GWS forward line after quarter time so Lake, Murphy didn't have much to do.

Well then why didnt the coach move Murphy forward? I think you are being kind to Murphy, he was beaten by Townsend.

Also we must keep in mind this was his first game of the year in a first year team. I love Reid's attitude and commitment but he is no different to Cross, Smith, Liberatore, Addison and Wallis except for the fact he'd be behind them all in the pecking order.

There's a fair few people of this opinion, but I'm very wary of this kind of approach.

Strong teams are built by rewarding form, not just playing all the kids. Josh Kennedy said he had noticed that at Sydney no one gets brought into the side unless they have been knocking the door down.

Contrast this with Melbourne who got rid of their leaders and have struggled with a list of kids who should be much better. It took them 4 weeks to finally start playing at the required intensity, as opposed to us who have at least been playing intense footy for most of the season so far (with the exception of large chunks of the Saints game).

Once someone has done enough to be promoted, they need to be given 3-4 games to prove themselves. But it generally does the kids no good to give them a game when they haven't been playing at a high enough level to deserve it. Let them show they are good enough and then back them in, rather than putting them in too early and letting them be smashed and turned into the new scapegoats. Moreover, Addison has been our best defender so far this year, while Grant has been showing some good signs and Higgins had a decent-ish game.

Did you catch us against GWS? Was so bad I was wondering where Phil Cleary was at half time in his dry-as-a bone. That was until I realized I was watching AFL and not VFL.

Didn't rate Lake's game at all, happy with the stats for SC purposes but thought he was quite poor overall. He's got to do more considering he's the leader down back.

This was a really tough game to sit through. I actually forced myself to sit there and watch the whole game yesterday I would have been better off doing something else. I hope it's just the case of a poor team dragging us down to their level but we're not that great anyway.

It's going to be tough sitting at the Dome Friday night. I think it's going to be a really long night.

My point is that GWS only had 37 inside 50's, ie 9 per quarter and Lake had 22 disposals or almost 6 per quarter, so he repelled most of their attacks. (in theory, some disposals were gained outside their 50).

Agree Lakes first quarter was poor, but after that he was ok.

As for Friday night, I may end up leaving mid way through the last quarter, something I have never done
