Your point about the Cats being reasonable traders is fair enough, though I still don't think it accounts for either the Bulldogs having to offer a pick that was better than that potentially offered to them to secure his services, or them requiring that pick to use in another trade.
Had we kept that pick we would have used it on Schofield anyway

So it's a moot point anyway, but geez, we stuffed it up on all fronts. Could have selected Puopolo (we were touted as being interested) or Duigan (who doesn't appear to have been on our radar but would fill a role) with 58. Instead we ended up with Schofield who, although looking a promising player, left after one year, and Geelong, Hawthorn and Carlton are all benefactors in one way or another.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Dont think you can call that a club stuff up at all, he looked like he had the potential to be up to their standards at least.
Whatever happened wasnt foreseen by him or the club a few months before.
        Just bad luck.

Yes trading out a good pick for a player you can get later in the draft isn't a mistake. Lose a draft pick and keep plodders like Mulligan and Hooper on the list.
