Re: Footscray v Richmond Final Practice match

I only saw the 2nd and 3rd quarters but my observations were

*Thought Stevens had a solid 2nd, won or halved contests got his hands on it and used the ball well, which was pretty much the opposite of his poor 3rd quarter where he didn't get enough and butchered it a few times.
*As mentioned the most impressive part of Hrovat's game was his repeat efforts. Was as strong without the ball as he was with it.
*Disappointed in Redpath's game. Didn't impose himself forward and I'm not seeing the point of putting him in the middle at the centre bounces. Can't find the ball and doesn't use his size when he's in there.
*Dale and Hamilton are both similarly smart players who use the ball well and put themselves in good spots. Both are a long way off physically and Hamilton struggles with his tank but they've both got a lot of upside. Wasn't super impressed with Maclean's game, looks to be the furthest away. Took a solid hit in the 2nd quarter too.
*Roarke Smith didn't play but walked across the field at half time. That hair is tough to miss.
*Hamling definitely looks a guy who can play a role for us. Can see him in the 1sts soon, although tough to break into the backline the way it's travelling.
*3rd quarter was pretty poor across there board. Let Richmond have their way a lot which shows we can't afford to drop off the pressure element of our game against any side.

Thanks Underdog, mostly agree with your observations.

McLean took a big hit in the first too, so perhaps it's a bit of an explanation why he didn't have a great game yesterday.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Footscray have prevailed in their final practice match, recording a seven-point victory against Richmond at Punt Road Oval.

In a close encounter which saw the lead change several times throughout the match, Footscray were able to keep Richmond scoreless in the final quarter and bring home a victory in their last hit out before round one of the VFL season.

The Dogs enjoyed an even spread, with ten individual goal-kickers including two each to Declan Hamilton and Bailey Dale.

Nathan Hrovat and Lachie Hunter were best afield for the Bulldogs, and continue to stake their claim at an AFL selection after impressive VFL form in the last month.

Footscray will take on Box Hill this Saturday in round one of the home and away season, a rematch of the 2014 VFL Grand Final.

The Club will unfurl their VFL premiership flag in a ceremony prematch.
