Saw some of what Caleb Daniel has to offer, he defintely will make it.
Has some really good attributes very clean and quick in tight and a great link up guy starting it or in the line of it, knows how to get it and what to do with it , has great instinct of where his team mate are and delivers exceptionally well for his age.

Hamilton was one of our more impressive newcomers today, particularly over the 4 quarters. His decision making, poise and ability to move the ball on effectively and quickly to advantage were highlights for mine. At times this seemed in contrast to Hrovat who tries too often to do too much, with too match haste. Declan's work rate must impress his coaches as even late when this game was over he kept on presenting. Very early to call but I see leadership potential in this kid when he breaks through.

And just on Darley, I thought that he got significantly better as the match went on and had a particularly good second half.

The issue with The Rat is he often goes with his 3rd or 4th option, hence why he holds the ball for to long.
Needs to become a quicker decision maker, but is still a career in its infancy

Re: Footscray v Geelong - Round 5 VFL

After a pretty deflating second half at Etihad last weekend, the trip to WO yesterday was just the tonic.

Once I got over the shock of seeing Jack Macrae playing at VFL level, I took in some very, very good points which make me very, very pleased for our future. Toby McLean had the best game I've seen him play. Caleb Daniel was very good. I saw some comments from some Woofers saying that they thought he was quiet. Perhaps because Daniel got the majority of his touches on the outer flank/wings (where I stood), I found him far more prominent.

I posted during the game that Z Cordy impressed me. He's still lean and could do with a block of senior VFL footy, but he's got it. Moves well, has a footy brain, reads the play, can catch the footy and is clean with his disposal. He'll make a very good rebounding third defensive tall at AFL level.

Hamilton was also very good and Roarke Smith had his best game in the season proper.

The thing I got out of it all is that we have drafted so bloody well last time out! I think the 2014 crop is arguably our best draft group since 1999. Seriously, Webb is playing good AFL footy already, Dale has forced his way in, Cordy, Hamilton, McLean & Roarke Smith all playing well in the VFL, I'm quietly feeling slightly cocky about the next 7-8 years.

Just as a footnote: I took a couple of non-Doggies mates to the game yesterday and discovered that they'd taken to calling Jarrad Grant "Sloth". As in "Gee, Sloth's going okay today." I just thought is a funny observation from two outsiders who aren't particularly familiar with our players. If you envisage a Sloth swinging from a tree or swimming, it is very Grant-esque!!

Dalrymple has a good eye/bias for natural footballers, compared to Clayton who fell in love with athletes.

Fingers crossed SD can sniff out a couple of gun big men over the next couple of drafts. On that note, we should be signing him up to a long term contract so he has the time to complete this list before other clubs inevitably come calling to poach him from us.

With a bit more size on McLean and Hamilton they are going to be very good players. Both of them kick very good goals as well. McLeans in particular was eye catching.

Webb has been given the week off.

Thanks for the reports, good to hear of some promising signs by the new guys and strong performances from those on the periphery.

Didn't we have a strikingly similar conversation at the VFL Grand Final?

                          Thanks Bulldog Joe,

Interesting to see the large amount of disposals so of the Footscray players had. Looks like a total domination of the stats.
If Minson had of kicked 4.1 instead of 1.4 that would of really raised some eyebrows. Those that went to the game were they gettable shots he missed?

A couple were snaps out of ruck/pack situations, the other two were set shots which one was straight forward and the other on a pretty acute angle.
