Everyone knows the real shooters were in storm drains. Was he is the ground drainage?

Wait until they bail up the AFL PA and ask them whether the PA executive endorse man handling umpires and then demand Will resign so it doesn't discourage young umpires taking the trade up...

Surely Will gets off and plays firsts next week?

Watching the footage on the way to the car park tonight and wondered if it was the wrong footage.

I guess a lot has to do with what Minson was saying at the time when he made contact.

If he gets 3 weeks for that, Slater and Gordon should step in. What the hell is the world coming to when a guy can get a worse penalty for touching an ump than a bloke can get for tripping a guy???

Well said Andrew. If Fyfe gets a 1000 fine and Will gets three weeks I will be very dark.

Re: Footscray v North Ballarat - Round 6

I saw the incident live from the Hawkins Wing and I must say that I didn't like what I saw. I know it's our Will and Fyfe should've copped a harsher penalty etc etc. but as a guy standing there with my two kids, I did not like it. I'm far from a holier than thou character, but as a core principle, you NEVER touch the umpire. Period!

The camera angle looked more innocuous than the angle I saw. It was a solid, frustrated slap on the back of the ump's right shoulder which was dealt in frustration. Funnily enough, I believe Will had scrambled a goal which the goal umpire called touched off the boot. To me watching live, that call was bullsh1t.

Will thought so, too. Ironically, I believe the field umpire shared Will's (and my) view and was running in to instruct the goal umpire that he supported Will's view and was closer to the kick etc. in short, I strongly suspect the field ump was coming in to overrule the goal umpire's howler. In that dramatic, robotic way that field umpires consult with goal umpires!

Unfortunately, as he was running past Will to do so, Will (feeling instantly aggrieved at a howler of a call by the goal ump) have a frustrated push/slap on the field ump's right shoulder/back as if to say "WTF, Sort that dill out etc." it was forceful enough for everyone to instantly feel the "that's not on" reaction to it.

Will instantly realised the same thing. It was a brain snap and Will no doubt regrets it. I went straight to the seniors (actually saw the Ch7 cameras out front post-game) and haven't seen the reporting of it. No doubt it's gallingly sensationalised and a real eyeball roller.

However, the principle of NEVER touching an umpire (let alone pushing or slapping) needs to be protected. Therefore, I'm afraid Will has to take his medicine. It's a shame it's happened, but it's happened, nonetheless.

As a bloke who had two kids standing next to me when it happened, it needs to be dealt with.

Well Webby the coach sees it differently.

Minson 'umpire push' incident 'pretty laughable', says Beveridge

Did he mean to do it, or was he just swinging his arm not knowing someone was running past or thinking it was someone else?

His arm went up straight away saying sorry

Webby, as hard as it is to accept that there was any malice in it after looking at the available video footage, thanks for sharing what might be the less popular view from most Bulldog supporters. Your view does help to describe what Will no doubt will need to contend with come Tuesday's hearing.

They showed something different on Ch7 this afternoon. It was when the umpire was actually walking next to Will after he was sent off and it looked as if Will used his right hand to tap the umpire on the right arm.

Nothing changes for me though, he's done the wrong thing and needs to be given a spell as a result.

If he has merely tapped the umpire on the shoulder, then at best it's a fine.
