His ball usage out of the backline was very, very poor on multiple occasions. His kicking has always been the big knock on him and in the windy conditions today, it was really shown up. At one point, he actually kicked it to a Willy player in our own defensive goal square! Mind you, Lachie Hunter matched that effort a moment later..

Talia's ball drop has always been a problem. He's worked on it and it has really improved, however it does look unnatural and a bit laboured, and today it was really shown up. Roberts has moved ahead of him on the back of his usage out of defence. I suppose it was easy where I was sitting, but he looked far from AFL standard today. He'll stay in the twos on the back of that performance - which is a big drop off from the very good senior footy he played for the first 5-6 games of the season.

A ball drop like Talias is always going to present problems on a windy day like today and as the day wore on it got worse the less confidence he started to have in it. He ended up kicking like a soccer goalie throwing the ball in the air and leaning back when he struck the ball with his foot.

But even though things weren't going right for him he kept trying I reckon. He was pretty good in the air and was judging the bouncing ball pretty well. He did get caught out of position a few times though.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I'm not going to bag players today the wind and bounce of the ball created havoc for us, we are a quick hand and foot side and very precise but in these conditions it was an old fashioned just kick it long and push and push day, it wasn't weather you could read the bounce or ball in the air.
Put it down to just a bad day all round.
I also had a chat to plough said his son will umpire seniors in coming weeks, also had a laugh about how he hated playing here when at hawthorn they pretty much pencilled it in as a loss back in those days, but loved playing here when at the dogs for the same reason.
Gee he gets around he was on ch 7 in the morning, at our game for a half then calling a game on SEN, I have been Into his ear for about a year now to get back down to whitten oval and asked if he had any grudges, he mentioned he was a life member and was busy but had never been invited though, even if it was to see his son I'm glad he finally got down and I think all the supporters were very friendly towards him, really nice bloke and always happy to chat.
Had a dig at a few of the officials today as a lot of them didn't have their bulldog gear on and were in black jackets , gloves etc real winter stuff, Murph, Williams and Stringer were their today, Stringer walking around with his new addition to his family in his arms.
I did notice the bloke who played Tuppence Moran in Underbelly at the last two games too.
Becoming a bit of a celebrity day out at Whitten oval it seems.

Terry does love a chat. I could see he was watching the and didn't want to disturb him to much so I just said welcome back as I sauntered past but he turned around and shook my hand and obviously wanted to chat so I obliged him.

Opposite. Hunter kicked into a player in the defensive square. Managed to prevent an easy goal with a bit of help. Talia then gathered the bouncing ball from a quick snap at goal before kicking it into another Willy player who this time kicked the goal.

A big crowd down there today I thought and going by all accounts it's been an extremely successful venture not just for the premiership.. A big profit at the end of the season VFL wise with entrance cost, membership, grandstand seating cost.

The bloke who played Lewis Moran (not Tuppence - but Tuppence's brother) - Kevin Harrington (so I'm told) is there every week. Good on him - clearly a loyal supporter.

But, there was a world famous actor there that nobody noticed. My mates in the UK would have flipped out: The one and only Harold Bishop from Neighbours, or Ian Smith.

Apparently a keen Williamstown fan. My mates and I were, like "hah, that bloke looks like Harold from Neighbours!...... Hang on, that is Harold from Neighbours!"

He regularly sees Williamstown play despite (I believe) living the other side of town. He was never happy with Williamstown being aligned with AFL teams.

That would actually be illegal nowadays wouldn't it ?

On a pretty ordinary day I must admit I was once again very impressed with Roarke Smith. He is very raw but he certainly has something to work with. Looks like another rookie draft find.

How did you find Honeychurch's efforts? He did some undisciplined things and that 50 mtr penalty was just silly.
