Worth an upgrade in the second half of the season?

I don't think he is ready to play senior football but they still might upgrade him.

I thought his intensity was up, yet his execution needed some work (not on his own there). I agree that there were some undisciplined acts but when it comes to sticking up for his team mates, 'flying the flag' not many were up to Mitch's level. I feel we are a better team at senior level when he is playing.

Unless there are some injuries to our defensive group I'd say no. He may come into contention very late in the season if his form warrants it.

Going back to the NAB Cup game in Ballarat, Smith was one who really impressed me. He picked up an injury a couple of weeks later - which i think set him back. He might be worthwhile upgrading if he can get a run on. He, s a goer, has a good frame, can catch the thing, reads the play well and has reasonabke disposal. He's got clear upside. In only a couple of months, he's shown more than Prudden and Pearce in a couple of years combined..

I think there might be a reluctance to upgrade Smith simply because we have plenty of players playing a similar role in the seniors. Unless they start playing him in other positions I can't see why we would upgrade him. Looks a keeper though.

The conditions seemed tailor made for Willi yesterday. Campbell and Cordy should have dominated the clearances but Campbell in particular seemed to really struggle with his positioning as the ball drifted in the strong wind. The shorter stronger bodied Willi ruckman was more effective. Our Footscray side seriously lacks pace as well which made it difficult running the ball into the wind. The little bloodnut for Willi really cut us apart with his pace even though he was an annoying little shit. At one stage he was giving it to Honeychurch for giving away 50.....three dogs players in turn gave him an aggressive thrust to the throat......right on the edge of a report or the very least another 50.

Said it earlier but it really is horrible when the wind blows out there......most of the time. I have fond memories of the Whitten/Western Oval over the decades but memories can be a little romantic. The reality is I won't be going out there again if it's windy. It makes for a very ordinary spectacle.

Also quite an eye opener standing next to some supporters at the footy. Some of the statements coming out of their mouths defied belief. At one stage Biggs came onto the ground with a teammate and simply yelled to him to take the other wing and he will take this side of the ground. The bloke next to me starts carrying on that he should stop worrying about positioning and go and get the bloody footy! Same supporter talking to his mate as Caleb Daniel collects the ball, declares the little bloke played a couple of pre season games......but he's no good! It was only my daughter's plea that I restrain myself that stopped me from jumping down the bloke's throat.

Finally....funniest moment of the game was when Redpath waits to come onto the ground off the interchange and yells out to one of the coaching staff...."Hey, what's Buchanan's first name?"
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.

Could he play another role, other than as a defender? I haven't seen much of him but it seems he has a few tools we could use around the ball with his intensity and overhead marking ability.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

It's a good point you raise. I'd like to see him back in the seniors but it's hard to judge him on yesterdays performance.

did anyone notice our guys doing that thing at free kicks? If the player with the ball wanted to play on then another player would stand next to the man on the mark and his teammate would just take off while the man on the mark gets a legitimate bump or smother as soon as the ball carrier is within 6 metres. It's fun to watch.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I really dislike the practice. To me it takes someone away from a more useful position on the ground, and for some reason to me it doesn't resonate with the spirit of the game.

Anastasio was the bloodnut from Willie. Decent set of wheels on him. My experience has demonstrated that Italian redheads are amongst the more volatile & competitive people in the world! Perhaps he got under our blokes skin, but i wouldn't mind him in our VFL side. Very busy and very quick.

Have to agree Jeemak. Harry O used to do that to us and it made me see red.

At this stage I'd say no. Possibly up on a wing but realistically I've only seen him play in defence and have been suitably impressed so that's where I like him to stay and develop.
