2016 - State League potential Draftees

Based on a comment form The Doctor regarding Mason Shaw I thought I'd have a quick look at some likely draftees from the various state leagues.

Luke Ryan - Played just 10 games for Coburg this year before he was injured however, he really caught the eye.
20yo,185cm rebounding defender who reads the play well and is known for his intercept marking abilities but he also posses good kicking skills.

Liam Ryan - His highlights on youtube with his marking is quite impressive and at 186cm and 20yo he had a very good season in the WAFL. Very raw but full of potential.

Jye Bolton - The 2016 Sandover medalist is playing his best football after previous stints at Werribee and as a rookie for Collingwood. He's 24yo and 183cm and should be drafted this year.

Knowing that many ruckman take a lot of time to mature there are 3 ruckman who should attract a lot of attention this year:

Rowan Marshall from North Ballarat, Darcy Cameron from Claremont and Oscar McInerney from Casey.

Liam Nash a tough onballer, nice size around 186cm. Worth a rookie shot in my view

Mitch Hannan high flying forward around 187cm. Takes some great speccies. I think he's a one trick pony however

Jordan Russell half back and captain. 188cm & 30yo. Arguably the best player in the VFL, i would pick him as a rookie under the same reasoning we have chosen Adcock and Goodes in the past and he is better than both.

Picking between Hannan and Nash for a rookie spot is tough. Think Nash would fit our contested ball mantra, but Hannan has some AFL level tricks, particularly his much publicised overhead ability and his speed. Accurate goal kicker too.

I'm not a fan of the mature aged rookie, unless it's for a very specific role (ruck). JR has been immense for Footscray and is also employed by the club in a coaching capacity. Better for him to focus on that and use our last rookie spot for a mature age ruckman, IMO.

Darcy Cameron is form Claremont WA is 203cm and 104kg. There might be a query on his pace but he did well resting as a forward kicking 36 goals.

Doc mentioned Mason Shaw who is probably more of a forward but at 197cm he could be a decent relief ruckman. He was on Ports list but fell well short however, has had a good season this year,

Another KP player worth considering after a strong season is Tyler Keitel, a 20yo, 194cm, key defender who got named in the WAFL team of the year. I think he mainly played as the full back.

I'm guessing he would be earning more money in his role with the club than if he was a rookie?

Sam Baulderstone from Norwood was spoken about as a potential draftee a couple of years ago. About to turn 26 so would be ready to go, 200cm, 113kgs. Named in the ruck in the 2016 SANFL team of the year. Not sure if he's athletic enough though.

That name rings a bell. Ranked #14 by Knightmare in 2014. Sure enough, he's on the BF Collingwood board wanting them to pick him this year

He didn't test as well at the combine as he probably should have and no club was interested in him indicating he didn't interview well either. Still a couple of years later he might be worth another look. My guess is it won't be by us.

I'm sure in Bevo's b&f speech he says something along the lines of 'we were probably going to draft you this year if you hadn't signed a new contract', suggesting to me that they had a discussion with Russell and he wanted to focus on his coaching role.
