The Commodore Cup. John Bourke, "he's done well the boy" it was the VFL's and C7's loophole into broadcasting football on Sundays. The state government wouldn't allow it. So they moved the swans to Sydney and tarted up the reserves for the weeks they couldn't beam Swans games back to Victoria.
What I don't understand is how the govt could stop the VFL from playing on Sundays but couldn't stop the VFA playing on Sundays. "Oh no it's the VFA who say NICH! We're terrified of the VFA. Make them stop!"
i guess having a team called Footscray playing out of the Whitten oval and dominating the VFL and the Bulldogs reigning premiers of the AFL is like somebody read my mind a few years ago and granted the big wishes they found in there so I can reluctantly spare a couple of Whitten oval home games. No more than two though. That's all I, sorry we, can spare.
