Q1 Cats 6.5 Dogs 5.1 Cats AFL players getting better of Dogs eg Cockatoo. Dogs out to a 3 goal lead then Cats dominate. Young had a good qtr. Boyd and Schache not doing very well as rucks. Jong, Greene, Redders and Lipper on scoreboard. Good run for Jong and Wally so far
HT Cats 10.10 Dogs 5.2. Just too clean and too strong (incl Crameri). Having said that I thought we worked a little harder that qtr than 1st qtr. Jong and Wally working hard but we really lack a cohesive midfield. Boyd was better in the ruck that qtr but suspect he was up against VfL ruck vs AFL ruck. Schache looks a much better option around the ground than Boyd but still a long way to go as a ruckman. Lipper disappointing as has been Greene outside 1sr qtr goals. I think the best team is in Canberra
There is no sadder sight than a young pessimist.
3QT Cats 13.11 Dogs 11.3 Much better qtr with whole team lifting. What may have helped at HT was a changeover of 3-4 VFL players who played last year replacing new recruits as there was better cohesion. Toyd’s game went up a notch and Wally/Jong continuing with strong efforts. Richards playing well off halfback. Noticed Roarke playing fwd that qtr

Half way thru last qtr which is held up at present due to Geelong player needing to be helped from ground. Cats 14.12 Dogs 13.4 and about to take a shot on goal when play resumes

My brief thoughts around AFL listed players (taking into account this was a practice match at the end of the day):
Wally - probably the best performed midfielder and probably first in queue for call up
Jong - tried super hard all day but continues to get caught too easily with the ball or ruins good play with poor disposal. This latter point particularly evident considering the intensity of this game (i.e. VFL practice match vs AFL game for points)
Young - good first quarter and contributed for the rest of game, albeit less influential. Pick of the KD players
NMM - took some good marks but still a long way to go. Played mainly back.
Lynch - thrown around the ground a bit but little influence
Schache - much better around the ground than he was in today's ruck role - easily beaten by Geelong's AFL ruck men (e.g. Rhys Stanley)
Boyd - improved as the game progressed. Really only effective in the ruck in the first half, but got a bit of the ball in the second half.
Webb - could've played with more gusto (e.g. Jong), but certainly a 'nice' player to watch with the ball in hand. Worked harder in 2nd half after an average first half when compared to his 2017 VFL form
Richards - impressive off half back all day (was the nominated 'kicker' in the first qtr after each point scored by opposition)
Lipinski - hardly sighted, probably the biggest disappointment of the AFL listed players given how he finished 2017, Can play much better
Porter - in and under but with a fair bit of work to do
Greene - kicked 3 goals. Put on Nakia Cockatoo in last qtr (he'll be rushed back into Geelong's team I suspect), I thought for the experience (NB - a few players thrown around during the practice match)
Roarke Smith - played a much better second half - still some way to go
Redpath - would have preferred him re-directing some of his 'aggression' at getting the ball versus the man. I think he'd be disappointed with that game, but looked mobile and kicked a couple of goals
Options for West Coast game? Probably only Wally and Jongy with Redders up forward or Young down back if required. Nothing else to get excited about at this stage (apart from Richards). I think Tom Boyd would be better for the run as would Schache.
Re Richards - I think he will get a run in the firsts by years end.
Clay Smith, Tom Campbell and Kieran Collins didn't play and as Daniel was absent, I assumed he was the travelling sub for the GWS game.

FORGOTTEN Western Bulldog Mitch Wallis put his hand up for Tom Liberatore’s vacated midfield spot in Sunday’s VFL practice match against Geelong.
Wallis was overlooked for the Western Bulldogs side that lost to Greater Western Sydney by 82 points on Sunday and was prolific for Footscray in the midfield against the Cats.
There will be at least one forced change following Liberatore’s second ACL injury of his career, while Hayden Crozier will be monitored after finishing the AFL match on the bench with a knee injury of his own.
Wallis was also left out of Luke Beveridge’s side for both of the Dogs’ pre-season fixtures.
Top draft picks Tom Boyd and Josh Schache rotated between the ruck and forward line without banging the door down for a recall, but will come into consideration.
Boyd, with his right knee strapped, started in the ruck and combined in attack with new recruit Schache, who booted one goal.
Draftee Ed Richards looked composed across half-back for the Dogs while Lin Jong booted two goals, joining Lukas Webb to put their hand up for round two.
Tory Dickson and Jack Redpath both kicked two majors each, Redpath available for senior selection next week against West Coast after serving his suspension from last year.
