Time to throw some big bucks at a top midfielder - WHO?

There are a a few mids coming out of contract and we need to be looking at them.

I personally think we should throw some big dollars at Andrew Gaff - even up to $1 million if we can fit him in.

Is this prudent or do we just muddle along and go exclusively with draft picks?

Is there someone else we could target?

Josh? I don't think he's the answer to our problems.

Gaff for sure, would cost us only the compo we get for Dahl/Wallis.

Anyone else would cost us our pick 5.

We tied way too much up in JJ. If we got a good enough pick, then we have money and trade currency to do something bigger.

We'll be like Norf the last 2 years no one will want to come, even if they're overpaid. We should be happy with the likes of Trengove and Crozier because that's as good as it's going to get for a while.

Nope, get no one for me as we are too far away at the moment. I'd rather hit the draft hard.

Also can someone move to AFL board

Why, isn't this the drafting and trading forum?

I doubt we will be able to attract a big name player this year so it's to the draft or we look at a mid range player like Aaron Hall or Dean Kent:

MEANWHILE, Dean Kent could leave Melbourne in search of greater opportunity.

Kent remains sidelined with a hamstring injury suffered in the Round 5 loss to Richmond, but is understood to want more midfield responsibility.

He made a bright start to the season, with 20 disposals and three goals against North Melbourne in Round 3 and 17 touches and three goals against Hawthorn in Round 4 before injury struck.

But the Demons’ improved depth and rise to legitimate contender status has made it difficult for Kent to break into the engine room.

He finished in the top 10 of Melbourne’s best and fairest in 2016, but has played only 61 games in five-and-a-half seasons, partly because of injury.

At 24, he has a mix of speed and power, and an appetite for defensive pressure, that would appeal to potential suitors willing to take a punt on his soft tissue issues.

It’s understood Kent would prefer to stay at Melbourne, but is unlikely to get a deal to his liking at the Demons and is assessing his options.

I would be interested in Kent - has shown some pretty good ability.

                    Also would consider Hall.

Only if the season finished in Round 4. Never seen a player start every season so fast and then drop away so quickly.

Gaff is a very good player and would make us better but given how far we have slipped back perhaps it's a year or two too early for a move like this. I'd wait and go to the draft table before chasing players even though this is a FA suggestion.
If he isn't going to make us a top 4 side then I wouldn't be quick to start spending the money a player like Gaff would command.

What about him missing a lot of footy with soft tissue injurys? Should we be bringing in players with historys of soft tissues?
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.
