Your Rolling Top 5 - AFL National Draft 2018

I thought it would be good from now to draft day for folks to have a rolling top 5 from the posters who want to play along. There's the end of the underage year, the draft combine and media hype to all contend with to change the top 5. If and when you change your top 5, some discussion on why players moved up or down in your view would be great.

For example, ESPN's Knightmare has his latest rolling top 5 power rankings:

    1. Lukosius (was 1)
    2. Smith (was 3)
    3. Walsh (was 4)
    4. Hately (was 7)
    5. Max King (WBD) (was 5)

    6. Ben King (was 6)
    7. Rankine (was 2)

Re: Your Roling Top 5 - AFL National Draft 2018

Although not mine, Cal Twomey has put his first phantom up, top 5 and two extra:

    1. Jack Lukosius
    2. Sam Walsh
    3. Max King
    4. Ben King
    5. Tarryn Thomas (North, matching WBD bid)
    6. Izak Rankine (WBD)

    7. Bailey Smith
    8. Nick Blakey (Sydney, matching Freo bid)
    9. Bailey Willims

(Also, no Rhylee West in the first round. Although in Twomey's rolling team of the year he has West, Khamis & Rankine (who he has us taking) as all three in the starting 18 in the U/18 Team of the Year. That's a nice talent profile to add to the list)

Re: Your Rolling Top 5 - AFL National Draft 2018

My top 10 would be something like:

1: Jack Lukosius - Just looks to be the best prospect. KP player
2: Sam Walsh - Hard running ball magnet.
3: Izak Rankine - Highly talented and very quick. Good kick
4: Ben King - Key forward or defender.
5: Bailey Smith - Midfielder or forward. Can kick a goal.
6: Max King - Has been injured but before that was a genuine #1 pick contender.
7: Jackson Hately - Big midfielder and productive forward.
8: Tarryn Thomas - One of the most skilled players in the draft, North NGA player but could be a slider
9: Connor Rozee - Quick, skilled and versatile
10: Nick Blakey - Sydney bound tall utility

Hately is one of the harder players to gauge, he could very well slide.
Thomas was poor during the championships and could also slide despite his talent
There are a host of quality players from SA this year and a couple of very exciting ones from WA.
      McFadyen could be a bolter.

I think the draft could particularly be strong from picks 10 to 18 this year and depth wise most clubs will get good players in the top 30.

A couple of months on and I think this is still close although there are a few now challenging a top 10 ranking

Does anyone want to take a crack at the top 5 or even top 10?

              1. Isaac Rankine

              8. Luke Valente
              9. Xavier Duursma
              10. Curtis Taylor

              * I haven't included Max King due to his season long injury
              * Ian Hill, Connor Rozee, Riley Collier-Dawkins have some top 10 attributes but miss out
              * I haven't included Rhylee West as we are certain to grab him anyway
              * Had a good think about including Connor McFadyen & Jez McLennan

Happy to see Valante in your mix Doc. I love to squeeze a good Norwood boy into my top 20 where possible and he looks a good chance of carving out an AFL career. Had to slot the good PAC boy in Sparrow in first though.

Rankine at number 1 is a bit of a surprise to me, but there's no doubt he has the talent to be in that conversation.

                Duursma another interesting selection.

                Thanks

Great list Doc, McFadyen to me could easily be around the top 10 on draft night and McLennan I have more around the 15 mark.

Twomey has put out his latest form guide today. He has Ben King (6) & Rozee (7). Plus Rhylee West at 16.

Cal Twomey did a first round phantom draft today on the Future Stars show that even allowed for bids from other clubs

The order went along the lines of:

                      1) Walsh
                      2) Lukosius
                      3) M.King
                      4) Rankine
                      5) B.King
                      6) Smith*
                      7) Blakey
                      8) Rozee
                      9) Caldwell
                      10) Thomas
                      11) Hately
                      12) Quaynor
                      13) Clark
                      14) Taylor
                      15) Hill
                      16) Butters
                      17) Stocker
                      18) Collier-Dawkins

West was not in his first round selections.

West was also interviewed on the Future Stars show

Having a closer look at the options for our pick 6 and I quite like the thought of landing Bailey Smith if he was available.
When paired with Rhylee West it would improve both the quality of and the depth of our midfield quickly.

Rankine, the King brothers, Blakey and Hately would all be be great options as well with Caldwell an outside chance

Smith would be a great addition to our midfield.

I didn't think we'd get a look in at him, but it's shaping up that we could as a few others are starting to climb in the rankings. A lot to play out to see who ends up holding the picks before ours and what their needs are, but if we don't get Wingard, I'd be very comfortable adding Smith and West.

Don’t think he’ll be there at 7. Imagine it will be a choice between Rozee,Caldwell and Hately- assuming we have the pick.
