Second the call on 'good to see' with Boyd. Just his second game in 8-9 months, and still on managed minutes. Rucked well, really good second efforts around the contest and pushed forward (to have players kick it over his head or miss him by 20m). Hopefully he's looking at a return in a few weeks to the seniors.

Give Boyd a good stretch in the VFL imo

Get as much game time into him as can be. Build him up.

Thanks Smads. Had the game on TV but wasn’t watching it properly.

To be fair, the knock on Boyd has never been his second efforts.

Just reading through the thread so may end up with a stream of replies...

We don't have good recent history of keeping local boys from the Victorian elite system on track. How do you think we'd go providing the right support to get a player like Stack performing? Agree with the notion that he's the exact type of player we need and he had proven himself at the elite junior level, but I'm not confident we'd execute and have got him to the point of playing senior footy like Richmond have done. Should we be better and thus have more confidence in our ability to do so? No doubt. Are we there now? No. I'm happy the kid has found himself in the right situation at the right club.

You need to read the game report. Cavarra wasn't playing well at all, in fact beaten so he was switched back. There is always a reason.

I get it/read it - first game back for him so not too concerned. Just a bit frustrated as we need a dynamic small forward and was hopeful he'd be the man. There's still time.

The way I see it, Cavarra has a long way to go to transition to AFL.

In any case he just came back from bruised ribs and what not after Willy players targeted him in the practise matches.

                        Dogs fall to Seagulls

The Footscray Bulldogs have been handed their first loss of the 2019 VFL season, falling to Williamstown by 16 points at Williamstown Football Ground on Sunday afternoon.

Taking charge early, the Bulldogs entered the first break with a 15-point lead, followed by a goalless second term and quiet third quarter. An early goal from Brad Lynch in the fourth quarter kept the Dogs within a point, before the home side booted another two majors and sealed the win.

Midfielder Bailey Dale enjoyed an impressive performance, collecting 20 disposals and kicking a goal, while Defender Fletcher Roberts proved vital in the backline, gathering 18 disposals and five marks.

VFL listed midfielder/defender Reuben William was named best afield for the ‘Scray, taking seven marks and laying two tackles.
In their return from injury, Ben Cavarra (10 disposals, two tackles), Laitham Vandermeer (13 disposals, three marks) and Buku Khamis (17 disposals, six marks) were influential, while developing midfielder Rhylee West (17 disposals, five tackles) enjoyed another solid performance.

Defender Lewis Young continued to push his case for a senior recall, getting the upper hand on 22 hit-outs and taking four marks, while Pat Lipinski continued his stellar form collecting 19 disposals, six marks and two tackles.

Captain Josh Prudden also enjoyed a solid 50th game for the Footscray Bulldogs, laying four tackles and collecting 16 disposals.
The Footscray Bulldogs will head to Casey Fields next Sunday 5th of May to face the Casey Demons at 2pm.

                          Then colour me this BAD
                          .
If he is out of form then how does taking him away from the position he has always played and moving him to the other end of the ground to play in a position that he hasn't trained for and is unfamiliar with the other players down there do any good for his confidence?

Taking a hail mary and doing that may have worked back in the 80s and 90s and football is a much more professional game now.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

                              Inclined to agree.

The last thing Boyd would need for his confidence would be to be sent into an AFL game underdone/lacking match fitness.

For what its worth I'm dying to see him play AFL football again, but only if he's ready, both mentally and physically.

I think you almost have to write off the games at Willy to be honest. They are pretty much just a fitness session - as we, and most other teams, don't play anything that resembles footy down there. Although we are playing in Ballarat in two weeks, so it might be some help for that game.

Good to see that Buku did ok, and got through his first hit out in the colours after a big break.
