I remember Bernie working with the ABC and 7 in the late 80’s
Fair to say he was a tad biased our way

I believe though that we got the best of KT but merantau can fill us in on that. Would be great to have a forward like that now.
When KT first came to the club he was underdeveloped in the upper body. Had a solid undercarriage though. But lots of training saw him address that imbalance.
He became a really powerful forward. Quick on the lead, agile, hard to shift in one on ones and a great pack mark too.
He could also roost the ball 60 - 70 mts with these huge barrels.
I heard he did us a favour when he went to Melbourne as his knee(s) was/were shot and he could no longer play to the very high standard that he set himself.

Kelvin showed glimpses of his old self at Melbourne
Kicked a bag against us if I recall
His knee was cooked , and rumor has it he told the club to cash in on him .
Remember a Game against us in 85 where KT couldn’t kick more than 30 metres
Sad ending for such a great player

I rambled incoherently with Bernie in a pub on a footy trip once.

The tragedy of our competitive but outgunned teams from 1983-88 (no season under 10 wins) was that KT and Beaser couldn't play together. But for his knee injuries KT would have been in his prime at the same time as Beaser - in the days of stay at home key forwards, we would have had an elite CHF and FF combination almost the equal of Brereton and Dunstall and vastly superior to any other team.

I remember that game too. It really was tragic to see a great player reduced to a shell of his former self.

Really great insight merantau. From what I hear we had some great players back then but just couldn’t as a team win premierships. 1985 we came really close.
