Might we lost him to basketball? Another sport?

NGAs are as much about farming kids towards AFL as it is 'providing a pathway for kids'. The AFL is ruthless when it comes to marketshare.

Read an article today with Clarko having a spit about the compromised draft and how it doesn't help to rebuild. All I can say is "did'ums".
Its amazing how these clubs behave when the shoe is on the other foot.

Absolutely. And there is a huge amount of community engagement with local clubs and volunteers which expands the reach of footy and footy clubs further.

Is the NGA program the same one that netted the swans Heeney and Mills and the Giants players like Jacob Hopper and Tom Green? If so then ditch it.

I’d be very surprised if the dogs getting JUH is the reason for the AFLs changes. It’s been in the works well before he was tipped as a top 3 pick. More likely it’s the fact a couple of clubs have already cleaned up and it looks like it’ll happen again this year - in short (Justified) frustration With the system.

Its not the same system as the academy that brought Sydney mills and Heeney - but recruitment wise it has similar principals. But focusing only on 'who gets what' ignores a lot of aspects of the program.

A big part of the program is to provide a pathway for indigenous players, and players from diverse backgrounds, to help them be better equipped to deal with what AFL life will be like. The reality is, that indigenous players are disproportionately represented when it comes to player welfare and off field issues, and are also playing on average less matches than non-indigenous players.

Perhaps the drafting element can be tweaked, but the merits of the program is more than just access to talent via zones.

If they simply take away the discount for matching a bid, that would make it a lot fairer.
