I think many people were expecting a lot from him based on some exciting traits and attributes he has. We need to exhibit some patience with him and I agree, it's equally way too early to have concerns about him. He just needs time to develop

Have you gone for Darcy not Jones?

Darcy will take a while but will be worth the wait?

I was talking about Darcy who will surely take a few years but has some real attributes

I was saying he is taking longer than I thought he would.

All good, both players will need time.

He was a speculative late round pick who’s played half a dozen VFL games. I’d suggest if he played a senior game this year that would be an above expected return.

I am worried. His body of work is below where I expected it would be.

                      VFL player summary: Round 8

Development coach Travis Varcoe reviews the nine AFL-listed Bulldogs who featured at state-league level over the weekend.

                      Jamarra Ugle-Hagan

Five disposals, two marks, one inside 50

“It was a tough day for our forwards in general – Jamarra fought the day out though. With limited access to the footy in his area, he was able to at least give us a contest which was good.”

                      Hayden Crozier

                      25 disposals, 13 marks, six rebound 50s

“It’s always nice to have a cool and calm head like Croz, especially in our defensive area. The last sort of quarter and a half – we were pretty much under siege with the amount of entries Collingwood had. Just having Croz down there with his presence helped us get organised. It was another solid game.”

                      Sam Darcy

Seven disposals, two marks, two rebound 50s

“It was nice to see Darc to run around after a long injury layoff, and for his first time in the colours. It was good for him to get through the game unscathed. He had his moments - it’ll definitely be exciting to see what the next few weeks ahead look like for him, and what he can bring us.”

                      Josh Schache

19 disposals, eight marks, five clearances, seven hit outs, one goal

“Schack was really competitive in the ruck against Mason Cox – there was a fair bit of difference in height, but he was able to at least give us a contest. With his engine, Shack was able to do what he does and get around the ground. It was nice to see him fight the whole day out, particularly being undersized. I thought he did well.”

                      Louis Butler

18 disposals, five marks, three rebound 50s

“Buts had a few different roles on the day – it’s always hard to adapt in-game, especially when things aren’t going the way we wanted it to. To his credit, he was able to implement some of the lessons from previous weeks, and again will take some great learnings out of this game going forward.”

                      Charlie Parker

13 disposals, eight marks, four inside 50s

“Parks played mostly on the wing – on a wider ground too, he fought well. He’ll also take some nice learnings out of the game, particularly playing on a bigger ground and against a slightly more experienced outfit. I think Parks will be better for the run.”

                      Dom Bedendo

18 disposals, seven marks, six inside 50s

“Dommy spent a lot of time on the wing, which is pretty exciting for him to be able to develop and add to his roles within the team. He actually brought us a little bit of life, speed and creativity through what he does with the ball in hand. It was great to see some of his defensive efforts really help our defenders out too.”

                      Arthur Jones

Six disposals, two inside 50s, three clearances

“Again, it was a pretty tough day for our forwards - Arty played on some pretty experienced players, so we hope he can take some of those lessons forward into future weeks. It was a massive learning curve for him.”

                      Cody Raak

17 disposals, five marks, seven rebound 50s, two clearances

“Raaky, again like Croz, battled hard all day in defence. A lot of the ball was coming in that way late, so he fought hard and gave us a bit of bounce out of there. There’s a lot he’ll gain from the experience.”

The wing experiment continues. Dom Bedendo this week!

It's a very good choice, it could be his best position.

On what I saw I was happy with Bedendo.

Don't think I can say the same about anyone else.

Schache was ok but being completely outplayed by Mason Cox is not a good performance.
