I hate what we're doing to Darcy. We're trying to make him a defender but it's quite clear he is more suited to being a forward/ ruckman. He has been quite influential in this role already from a small sample size.

It's easier to throw him back because Shache, Martin and Sweet offer less versatility but his development should take priority over accommodating them in the side.

Secondly, we're actively hunting Lobb on a 3 year contract when I will gladly argue that Darcy will be the better player within two years.

I know we desperately need a back man but why doesn't Naughton go back? Because he's a genuine match winner forward and they're extremely rare. Likewise, Darcy is a unicorn as per Bont's own words. Play him forward.

I think it's worth giving him experience at both ends of the ground. And if we're going to do it may as well do it now. I remember Hawthorn doing it with Roughead way back when and it probably helped make him such a well rounded footballer.

Also a great opportunity to play with Keath and learn from an AFL defender in game.

If we're looking at the annual Footscray rookie pick, as much as Sullivan was BOG I'd be looking at Garner. Esp. if Duryea doesn't go around again.

100%. He has shown so much more than Mara did in his first year coming off an interrupted preseason.

That serves me right for piping up about Darcy but I still stand by my comments that he's a forward.

It is easier to adjust to the game down back and get confidence than it is playing forward especially a tall and key forward. In Naughtons first year they allowed him to play intercept defender and to get confidence at the level. He usually picked up the 5/6 forward as they would go up the ground and he can drop back. Darcy will more than likely be treated the same until he gets used to the pace. He will probably pinch hit in the ruck or up forward.
