    2023 Free Agency

Here is the 2023 free agency market. Ben McKay, Tom Doedee & Jade Gresham some of the players who could be of interest. I suspect after clearing Dunkley, Hunter & Ameet Bains 'salary cap wriggle room, Bruce & Keath coming to the end of their contracts, we could be in a great position to be active.

With Jones & Keath passed 30, I guess McKay fits the need. I assume the contact probably gets them Pick 2 in compo after they finish last. I know they need mature players, but that’s an interesting option for North at a minimum.

Wait, what are we doing with Ameet Baines?

For mine I'm still a very mush unabashed Kamdyn McIntosh fan. Will be 29 next year.

We should have chased him this trade period. A very much plug and play hard running wingman.

Other than that Sam Menegola is the only one who interests me but will be 31.

Hard to get a good read on Ben McKay and has he stalled in development? I do question why they tried him forward for a couple of weeks during the season. Unsure if it was poor form or trying to give support to Nick Larkey.

Ben McKay and Michael Walters are the 2 that stand out for me.

I’d be interested in Himmelberg. He looked incredible as an intercept defender last year and his kicking is outstanding.

I'm not in the GWS players can't ever come to the Bulldogs brigade but Himmelberg just took over from Finlayson as biggest GWS flog with an awful haircut.

That said I would welcome him with open arms if he can fill our intercepting KPD void.

Looking at it with Buss now.

One young KPD in Buss, Darcy not solely a KPD, Keath on last legs, Jones maybe 2-3 years left, Gardner, and Bruce probably down there too and getting on.

Ben McKay (or then Himmelberg as probably the second best KPD) as a Free Agent would be a solid addition to the 'Mens Club'.

Losing Dunkley, Hunter, Wallis (not so much mid anymore) and possibly not drafting another top line midfielder this year - does a Fiorini come into consideration as a 26yo mid (averaging over 20 touches across his career - although not a lot of goals) for ready to play depth that costs nothing other than salary - who isn't elevated from Footscray or a DFA? He has some very impressive 'career best' numbers, and perhaps in a better midfield unit might elevate his game a bit.

There's probably the cash on hand to take available next year to pursue two Free Agents and also draft two first rounders - or - trade targets with likely still two first rounders and a Future First (2024) on the trade table next year.

Assuming the window's still wide open by the end of next year, solid free agents and more first round talent will keep it open.

I see Ben McKay staying with North. If he didn't jump to us the first 3 times we've chased him I'm not hopeful for next year.
Jade Gresham I'd love. Gun mid or forward. A 'nice to have' not 'need to have'

                    Re: 2023 Free Agency

                    Any interest in Dylan Moore?

How much will Hawthorn’s decision to delist then rookie-list Dylan Moore at the end of 2020 cost the club given that list decision officially made him a free agent in 2023?

Moore went on to enjoy a breakout 2021 that secured him a two-year deal that expires next year.

Now the mid-forward will surely secure a premium as a 23-year-old free agent who has kicked 27 and 26 goals in the past two years and shown he can be a bona fide midfielder.

Moore went into the centre square in the last third of the year and was spectacular in wins against West Coast, North Melbourne and Gold Coast.
He has significant leverage because a club trying to build an elite list absolutely must keep him.

And clubs know full well they almost never find a free agent so young unless they secure that status through being delisted.

Mabior Chol signed a four-year deal worth over $400,000 a season when he won free agency through the same process as a player delisted then rookied by his club.

Moore is every bit a $600,000 per season player.

Fiori as a target is somewhat appealing, he's a good player and, while not the sexiest pick up, would improve the team.

Larkey needed the help big time.

Instantly solves our intercept marking problem.
