Bit of both but the wind dictating more of the former…

There was a breeze but not as influential as last week. Most of the scoring was to the Barkly St goals nonetheless.

King Darce needs to play round one.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

          Re: VFL 2024 Season

We had a significantly stronger team than the Hawks yesterday but to their credit they didn't make it easy for us. Certainly a blowout in the last quarter really extended the winning margin

Some of the Footscray boys were pretty good. Bianco and Orgill played very good games. Craig-Peters goes okay as well

          For us:
Freijah as a defender made some mistakes but I really liked the way he attack and defended.
Clarke and Bedendo were disappointing. I didn't think Clarke worked hard enough and while conditions probably weren't great for Bedendo's marking he also didn't impose himself enough when the ball hit the ground.
Baker and Poulter were strong off the wings, Baker probably did a bit more but Poulters kicking looked sharp in the windy conditions
Scott and Macrae were really strong performers in the midfield.
Darcy was really good in the ruck but even better up forward. L.Smith didn't really impress.
Busslinger took some nice marks and really judges the flight of the footy so well.
Keath was solid and got through the game nicely.

            Disappointing about Clarke.

Hoping Buss can get going soon too.

Bianco looked really good against the hawks last week also interesting player. Hopefully it's a sign of the extra running with both teams finishing off strongly.

                  Re: VFL 2024 Season

Some of my key take aways from the game (I missed the first quarter):

Darcy - Thought he got beaten in the ruck by Meek in the 2nd quarter. He was dominant after half time. He was grabbing it out of the ruck a lot after half time. Showed good footy iq, but there is no way he can do this at afl level.

Macrae - Was prolific in the midfield. Racked up possessions like you would expect. I thought his defensive pressure was good as he laid a couple of strong tackles. His disposal wasn?t as effective as I would?ve like though.

Artie Jones - Was brilliant. Everything he touched turned to gold. This is the best I?ve seen him play. His skills were class above and is pressure was good. Could play round 1.

Anthony Scott - Very good. Pretty much did as you would expect him to at VFL Level.

Clarke - Had patches, but didn?t do enough. He needs to find more ways to impact games. I didn?t think his pressure was great either. As disclaimer this was a shocking day to be a forward.

Bendendo - I didn?t know he was out there until half time. He didn?t get enough of the footy. However I thought his intent and pressure when close to the footy was good post half time which was pleasing. I saw 3-4 really good defensive efforts from him in the second half. I think he will get some form after he strings 4-5 games together after the long lay off.

Busslinger - Best I?ve seen him play. Got plenty of the footy and used the ball well. His speed is still a concern for mine. He got burnt for speed out the back at one point. He could play if required this year.

Smith - Provided a contest forward. Battled manfully in the ruck. Unfortunately made a few skill errors. I wouldn?t be expecting him to press for afl footy this year as a developing tall.

Freijah - He looks like a player. Found plenty of the ball out of the back half. Provided plenty of drive but made some unforced disposal errors.

Baker - Did his job pretty much played as you would expect. Made the odd thumble. If he was a one touch player he?d play every week.

Poulter - Pretty much the same as Baker. I think Poulter is the smoother footballer. Not related to yesterday?s game, but if Poulter can learn to use his 194 cm frame he will be a weapon. Even aerially he gets pushed around by 180 cm guys. I hope his size can eventually become a strength.

Keath - Got a half in the legs. Didn?t get much of the footy but he butchered it when he did. Probably he and all the backline did there job defensively given Boxhill didn?t kick many goals. I think he will be a break glass option.

I’m fairly sure for at least one of these practice matches it will be VFL level players only unless an AFL player has special permission to play. Maybe JOD?
