It’s obviously not the strongest of drafts, and I’d be more than happy to trade our 1st away for a player. But the type of players available really fit our needs and I’d love to walk away with 2 first rounders if the club rated them High enough

Grjl's kicking sounds like it might be a concern. And with Brisbane's smalls going to work yesterday, it highlights how valuable a player like Dovaston could be. I think he'll rush up boards as we get closer to the draftComment

Interesting Will Darcy doesn't make that top 50 averaged list, but Twomey said the other day he expects a bid in the 30s for him. What I've read about his season just does not warrant such a high pick - I wonder how we are rating him internally, and whether we have a cut off point for matching a bid?
I don't think we've ever elected not to match a bid?Comment

It just takes one or two sides to be interested in investing a pick for the longer term view.

Darcy has the feels of 'being hidden' - school footy he was apparently impressive but played very little Coates League and no rep footy. He's the kind of kid that gets a bid because he looks like a classy footballer. There's a lot of untapped unspide there, and if Twomey thinks a bid will come around 30, then it suggests clubs really rate his attributes, even if they haven't seem them at the highest level👍 2Comment

My guess is that we only pick up one player early in the draft and then position ourselves to match bids on Darcy.👍 1Comment

Completely wild suggestion, but wonder if there’s a deal to do with North Melbourne. Move back to their back to back 2nd rounders and grab Barker (would be top 15 if not for his ACL), best winger in the draft and Thredgold, best KPD after Taylor/Dean. Both teammates at Sturt who won the U18’s in the SANFL👍 2Comment

Rookie upgrades can count in the changes. ie JOD comes off the Cat B list
I think you can also delist and redraft which carries a higher risk but it's an option.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"👍 2Comment

You have to make 3 changes to the list prior to the National Draft but it's not that it has to be filled solely via the National Draft.

I really don't understand the fuss about Will Darcy. I saw him play a couple of times this year and was quite underwhelmed. Yes, I fully understand the romance and also his brother's trajectory, but he's never been the player Sam was at junior level, nor his size. Without the name Darcy, he wouldn't be on a Coates list, let alone invited to a Combine.
Having said that, our list management and development team have followed him as a father son for years, and if they see potential, they know more then me. But from what I've seen, a rookie at best.
