Re: Williamstown vs Sandringham Burbank Oval
Wow. How huge will be be when he grows up and becomes Big Cordy!I think Wight will play seniors - here's my take on what the possible final Willy team will look like. If Tim Callan doesn’t come up then Langlands will probably get a run – a small for a small.
Or I could be way off (most likely)
Interesting that Lynch isn’t named in either side – maybe he came down with something after playing in the horrid conditions last week, as I can’t recall him coming off with injury? Either way he really needs to start making an impact soon or otherwise we may see another wasted talent leaving the kennel ath the end of the year.

HB Callan Everitt Wood
C Ward Bre. Johnson Davies
HF Reid Little Cordy

Re: Williamstown vs Sandringham Burbank Oval
Just got back from the game.
Williamstown ran out quite comfortable winners (about 50pts) with a 9 goal last quarter sealing the game, Sandringham challenged the Willi team in the 3rd qtr and in the early part of the last, but didn't make the most of their chances.
Ward - I thought he was really good, won his own ball, was clean by hand and foot and contested well. Would have had close to 30 touches and kicked 2 last qtr goals (should have been 3). Answered his demotion in the best possible way.
Stack - Played the best game I have seen him play. Spent most of the game across half back and gave good run and carry and used the ball quite well. Still did some silly things, but did some quite brilliant things as well. I was talking to a former Bulldogs employee who now works with the Saints and he thinks Stack is the type of player who would perform better at the higher level. Thinks he would fit in well in a quicker game where he could play on instinct... Interesting comments.
Skipper - Worked pretty hard in the ruck and took a nice contested mark in the last qtr to kick a steadying goal.
The rest - Will allow GVG and comrade to give their reports, but the rest of the Bulldog players were on the quiet side.
Interesting that both Everitt & Tiller were looking on which makes you feel there will be atleast one change. (Williams??)Comment

Interesting commenst re: Stack.
I always kind of wondered if he fell into that catergory. Might be a temptation a little bit along?Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Sandringham 3.3 5.6 9.11 12.12 (84)
GOALS:

Sandringham: Tungatalum 4 Eddy 2 Ferraro Cahill Gilder Gileno Lockwood Garrubba
BEST:
Williamstown: Grossman Keddell Joyce Young Roughead Weekes
Sandringham: Tregear Liddell Tungatalum Johnston Smith Garrubba
Great to see Roughy back - his tap work was phenomenal today and also clunked a few nice grabs. Good to get a game into him and I expect to see him rucking in the seniors next week.
Boumann started deep in defence but was shifted forward where he look very dangerous. He took some nice marks, both on the lead and contested. I like how he's developing both sides of his game and he'll surely have to replace Wight in the seniors at some stage soon - if we're serious about developing and moving forward.
Shaw once again battled manfully but he'll probably struggle to push for senior selection now that Roughy is fit and firing - he spent a lot of time forward and actually clunked some nice marks but just couldn't convert - should've kicked 3 or 4.
Henry White was played in the middle and struggled a bit. He showed some class at stages but made a few disposal errors that cost Willy badly. He also copped a heavy knock but came back and tackled and scragged well in close. Not his best game but good to see that he tries hard even when he's not 'on'.
Mulligan looked much better this week, but he still gets lost and was led to the ball at times. He did take a fantastic defensive pack mark (about 5 deep) that effectively sealed the game which shows that he does have something to work with. He also kicked a barrel from defence that went about 70 metres that I quite enjoyed.
The problem with the reserves is that every player is out for themselves so they get noticed and hopefully receive a seniors berth - a few times Boumann was alone running to goal and a Willy player did the fancy stuff and tried to screw the ball around for a flashy goal rather than do the team thing and dish it off.Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.Comment

Re: Williamstown vs Sandringham Burbank Oval
Stacky was good, but he let Raph Clarke almost blow the game apart in the last quarter before we ran away with it, and after Stack was dragged.
Ward was amazing, especially in the last quarter - almost like he brought his own pill. Had 2-3 goals, several good grabs, and at least 10+ touches. Would think he'd come straight back in.
The other thing I noticed was Ayce Cordy's unwillingness to kick. In the third term particularly, he looked to handball whenever he got it, and the one time he did kick it, he turned it straight over. May be something to watch, may be nothing.
I'm fairly sure Welsh didn't play, neither did Stevie T or Everitt, so look for two or three changes tomorrow.- I'm a visionary - Only here to confirm my biases -Comment

Will write something more in depth but just wanna say - how good was Skipper's run down on X. Clarke. Put him out of action for the day too....
EDIT: Just found out X. Clarke has done his ACL - terrible luck for him and I wish him a quick recovery. Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.Comment

Re: Williamstown vs Sandringham Burbank Oval
For the reserves, a few things stood out today.
Ghazi, who I haven't always been a fan of, is really working to a plan to help develop the youngsters. The Bulldog players are often given specific tasks and are thrown around in positions frequently.
Chris Ogle - played today and started on the bench but was given a specific lock down job on one of the Sandringham elusive forwards and stuck to his task. His skills and decision making isn't quite good enough at the moment but he does throw himself around. He copped a constructive spray from Roughead at 3 quarter time for not letting the other defenders know there had been a switch. Mulligan supported Roughies view.
James Mulligan - pretty much played the game as either the FB or mainly as the CHB and I thought he was a good contributor today. His marking was sound and he went on a number of dashes displaying his impressive mobility.
John Shaw - had one of his better games and was a solid contributor. He missed a set shot that he should have nailed but like Mulligan his marking was better than previous weeks.
Henry White - started the day as an attacking midfielder but was given two shutdown roles after half time. One was in the midfield and then later in defense. It would have limited his stats but he was a good contributor.
Jordan Roughead - had an excellent game alternating in the ruck and as a forward. His palming of the ball was a highlight and he held some strong marks in the last quarter when needed. The club will be more than pleased with his return game today and a recall to the seniors should just be a formality.
Jarrad Boumann - had another good game. He played a lot in defense in the first quarter before being moved forward where he performed very well. I liked his attack on the ball and he certainly wasn't a passenger with 2nd efforts either. Based on this performance he should return to the senior side next week.
I'll write about the seniors a bit later.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Re: Williamstown vs Sandringham Burbank Oval
Love hearing Bou is doing the right things.
Also love that Roughy gave Ogle a spray for not doing team things. Perhaps we have got another tall 'leader' of men down at the club as well as a great tap ruckman. Perhaps this one will drop forward and not back?Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment
