Tiller missed through injury.

With Tiller missing because of injury and Williams with hamstring tightness it does not bode well for us for our next game against North Melbourne.
Given his form Everitt would have to come in. It's a shame that Wight is out of favor and form because North are bound to load up on tall forwards.

I'll only add a few comments as others have done a great job:

Grant was started on the bench - was he being sent a message by Gotch? When he came on he seemed more bubbly than I'd seen for weeks - coincidentally it coincided with his best performance for a long time. As has already been mentioned, his hands were very clean in average conditions and his leading was an improvement on previous weeks. He's an unselfish player, always looking to give the ball off rather than blaze away.

He was ignored by his Willy teammates on a number of times in favour of Little, even if Little was being double teamed and despite being in a better position - he seemed to keep his frustration in check. Much better signs...

Reid did a mountain of inside work - his body is ready for AFL footy and a debut probably isn't far away.

Everitt's foot skills were sublime and shone like a beacon on a day when most really struggled judging the conditions. Addison's kicking was average in the first half but improved - his tackling was as fierce as ever.

Tim Callan was great against two handy types in Stokes and Varcoe - it's good to have someone of his ilk ready to step in when necessary.

Roughy looked comfortable at senior level - his snap on the run put a smile on my face.

A good win, Willy took the foot off in the last and their rotations weren't helped by losing both Williams and Cordy in the 3rd.

Only caught the game on the radio. Good report as usual. Any changes for next week and who might get elevated to the dogs? Possibly Everitt by the sounds of things! You failed to mention Cordy. Is he struggling a bit? May need a spell in the twos!

He was having another quiet game up until he injured his neck. A report in the Age today suggests he was taken off the ground on a stretcher and wearing a neck brace - this definitely did not happen as he made his way off the ground on his own accord (with the assistance of trainers and med staff).

This incident may be a blessing as I believe he needs a few weeks off to really freshen up. No point in running a kid his size into the ground his first year.

With Tom Williams, he is now nearly 23 years of age, shouldn't his body be matured and settled.
But with him being injured all the time, how much patience do the club give a player??
Cooney won his brownlow at this age.

I tend to agree, but comparing him to Cooney is like comparing oranges and apples. Smaller guys mature faster than bigger guys and Cooney grew up play AFL where as Williams did not he was mostly had a rugby background. With WIlliams being 6ft 5 and can run I think they'd have a lot of patience with him.

Im starting to think the coaching staff are taking a new view with Williams. Last year he was our great white hope, now are they thinking ok Williams if he's fit he is a bonus.
Hence is this why they are playing Bouman in defence for Williamstown and persiting with Everitt in defence?

Did you also read the part where Gotch said "he's nearly ready to make his AFL debut" I can't see it happening this year! I also agree that they are running him into the ground and putting to much pressure on the "KID"

I can't comment on internal measures that the Club might use, but as an outsider looking in - his last few weeks have been quiet.

Whether this is due to his body starting to get worn down due to the rigor of regular senior footy, or if he's getting extra attention I'm not sure - but it seems that a debut this year is a stretch.

With the Doggies not playing this week some more reports to come would be fantastic for those how couldn't make the game. Are you doing one Coon Dog?
A big thanks to all of you who have already supplied reports.

I've heard about Pt. Gelibrand being cold, but the weater yesterday was something else. I'm still not completely thawed out.

Grant - Played alright, a big improvement on the last few weeks. His hands were clean and he kicked a couple of goals (one good, one from the line), but he would still only offer one lead and point to space far too much. He also produced one of the stupidest look-away handballs I have seen, although he was trying to get others involved so I guess it's not all that bad. His chasing was a feature as well.

Reid - Best game I have seen him play. Looks ready.

O'Keefe - I actually didn't mind his game. Was quiet for patches, but very good in others. His disposal was clean and kicked 1 or 2 nice goals. Still looked a tad too slow at some points, but it's not as noticable any more.

Cordy - Was quiet, and not as impressive as other weeks. Almost broke his neck (quite literally as it turned out) trying to take mark of the year, but should be fine.

Callan - Played very well out of defence, and at points in the midfield. He produced some run and carry out of defence, and looked very fast. Got cleaned up with his head over the ball, and stayed down for a while in the last, but got back up and even came back on, so he should be fine.

Roughead - Was very impressed with his first game in the seniors. Started up forward but was moved into the ruck to give Skip some help. His tap work was good, and he didn't get outbodied too often by West and co., which was a pleasant surprise. He even kicked a nice goal too. Should look to maintain his spot for the season.

Addison - Didn't do a whole lot.

Everitt - Was pretty good. Did a good job on Pods before getting cut up in junk time. Can't do too much more before he comes up.

Wight - Played a similar game to Everitt, although with less substance to it from an offensive viewpoint, which is to be expected. Looks to have found his level.

Skipper - Was okay, but nothing spectacular. Has dropped off after his early form. Is another one who may have found his level.

Stack - Started out like a house on fire, with one particular run down the wing a real feature. His hands were cleaner and didn't fumble as much. Faded out of the contest slightly, however, but was very good overall.

Williams - Played well in the first half, but looked to grow increasingly fatigued and short of match fitness. Finished the day on the bench, although it looks as if it was only as a precautionary measure.

For those who watched, how good was Little? He always seems to be amongst the goals whenever I watch, and can take a mark. With Johnno and Aker on the way out, is he someone we should look at?

Like to see Gotch give Boumann another run this week. His form was very good. Thought he was stiff to get dropped but with Williams and Tiller (didn't end up playing) coming back, maybe they had to make room!

Have had a busy weekend so no chance to write up a report, but reading through the thread, not alot more to cover as some excellent reports as usual.

However, a couple of mentions, I was very impressed with Roughhead, his tap work was great and also some of his work around the ground, Tim Callan is just about ready to come back into the doggies team, but really needs a match up and its going to be hard to knock out Harbrow at the moment. Reid played a great game and was the best out of the dogs listed midfielders. Skipper, was very good in the first three quarters, but whether he gets a game this year, is doubtful, he is going to have to be very lucky to get his chance.

Williams Vs Geelong Match Report

Williamstown played Geelong in Round 10 action at Burbank Oval last Saturday. Williamstown had lost consecutive games to North Ballarat and the Northern Bullants to boast a 6-2 win/loss ratio. Geelong’s season sat at 3-5 but last round had a convincing 70 point victory against the winless Frankston.

Williamstown made four changes to the side that lost to the Northern Bullants. Into the side came Tom Williams returning from injury, Brennan Stack returned after making his AFL debut whilst Xavier Gotch and Jordan Roughead were promoted to the Seniors. Roughead who was the National draft pick No. 31 was recruited to the Bulldogs from the North Ballarat Rebels. Out of the side went Scott Meyer, Malcolm Lynch and Jarrad Boumann who were dropped and Chris Egan missed with injury. Geelong went into the game boasting their best side on paper for the year with inclusions including AFL premiership players Matthew Stokes and David Wojinski and listed players Tom Lonergan, Brodie Moles, Tom Gillies and Adam Varcoe. Captain and reigning 2008 Liston Medallist James Podsiadly was lining up for his 175th game which qualified him for life membership.

First Quarter:

Williamstown won the toss and kicked with the favoured wind to the tennis court end of the ground and in the first 15 minutes of the quarter Geelong was able to contain Williamstown. In a tight and uncompromising start of the game, Williamstown was unable to create space and at centre half back Tom Lonergan was a tower of strength. Eventually it was a defensive error by the Geelong backman kicking in that resulted in the opening three goals to Mathew Little (2) and Xavier Gotch. Even though Ben Johnson kicked the Cats opening goal, Williamstown was able to kick two more goals through Patrick Rose and Mathew Little to establish a 27 point lead.

Second Quarter:

Geelong now had their first use of the wind but the Williamstown defence led by Tim Callan, Dylan Addison, Tom Williams, Jason Cloke, Cam Wight and Andrejs Everitt defended superbly plus provided the Seagulls with plenty of rebound. Captain Brett Johnson kicked a tremendous right foot snap goal to break the close checking tag of Kane Tenace as Williamstown controlled the game. Mathew Stokes kicked the Cats’ second major but Ben Davies, Sam Reid, Cam Lockwood and Guy O’Keefe played well as goals to Jarrod Grant and O’Keefe extended the lead to 37 points at half time.

Third Quarter:

Williamstown again had use of the breeze and they quickly kicked three goals in the opening 5 minutes to Little, Roughead and Jolley to put the lead beyond Geelong’s reach. Rose and Little were running amok and the Cats were forced to put Tom Lonergan to full back to quell Little’s dominance. Stretton, Gotch, Stack, Langlands and Johnson controlled the midfield as the Seagulls added 7.7 to the Cats 2 behinds.

Fourth Quarter:

Williamstown lost Ayce Cordy and Tim Callan in the opening 5 minutes of the final quarter as the Cats rallied to put some respectability on the scoreboard. Multiple goals to captain James Podsiadly, Dan McKenna and Tom Allwright helped the Cats kick 8 goals in the final quarter although the Seagulls were still able to kick 5 goals through Little, Rose, Jolley, Langlands and Reid to run out comfortable winners by 61 points.

Next Saturday 27th June, Williamstown hosts the Casey Scorpions at Burbank Oval in the ABC TV Match of the Round. The 8th placed Casey Scorpions have won their last 3 games against Geelong, Werribee and the Northern Bullants. The Casey Scorpions reserves are also on a roll having won their 4 previous games to boast a 6-3 win/loss ratio and sit in 4th position on the ladder.

I saw him too. Have been trying to catch a glimpse of him for weeks now, so to finally see him was a sight to behold.

He didn't look in the best of moods though, as he was stopped about four times in twenty metres to be asked "aren't you that guy from Neighbors?"
