Tough call I would have thought. Perhaps I'm being too lenient because his first season was wrecked by OP but I do see improvement in him in the last month or so as his own fitness has improved.
Rocket was overly optimistic in his expectations of him at the start of the year and I can see other supporters getting very frustrated with him by early next year.
Welcome to the pressure of being a first round Bulldog key forward draft pick Jarrad.

To be honest though, Grant is only just under performing from what I thought he could achieve this year. By mid season in 2010 we should have a clearer picture on how he might develop.

I agree with what comrade has said, Grant is far more suited to FF than CHF, and seeing as he's playing predominantly up the ground for Willi (for whatever reason - Willi structure, improve the fitness base) we're not going to see the best of him this year. Hopefully he can put enough muscle on in the pre season to be able to compete in the AFL because I feel he'd be much more at home in the Dogs' side than he is in the Seagulls'.

Can I ask how much of him have you seen or is this just premised on yesterday's performance?

I've seen him 3 times last year, once in the NAB Cup and 4 times this year for Willi.

I'm the most optimistic Dogs fan you'll find, but I have real concerns about this bloke.

No question he has fantastic sticky hands and his kicking issues can be sorted out, neither of those are my concerns. The kid simply doesn't know what he's doing. His positioning, reading of the play and movement look like a kid brand new to the game.

He floats around outside of packs, looking for a handball but isn't in a dangerous position while he does it.

He took 1 mark yesterday leading up to the ball and that was a 20m chip to the wing.

He is a long, long way from senior footy.

Classic symptoms of being played out of position
If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

I'm no expert, and no doubt he's being played up the ground for good reasons, but you make a very good point.

I hope it's more of a 'played out of position' situation like a few of you have suggested, but you're definitely not alone with that thought Sockeye.

Admittedly I've heard this from people (family mainly) that haven't seen a heap of Williamstown football (and I haven't either so I won't embarrass myself making a call) but based on limited exposure, I've heard the 'he won't cut it' call before.

Would be a massive shame if first Walsh and then Grant as first round forwards that can't get it done.

One thing I did notice when he played against Carlton was when there was a long high ball deep into our forward line, a pack formed with Grant there, though instead of contesting the ball in the air which is what we're crying out for someone to do, he skirted to the front of the pack like a rover waiting front and centre. It was one play, but I thought it strange he didn't fly for it.

I tend to agree with a lot of what you've said, he doesnt strike me as ever being able to develop into the number one tall we all hope he will. Doesnt really have a build which suggests he will be a massive unit like a Brown or even a Fevola but really reminds me a lot of a Brad Fisher; good hands and quite agile. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I think Grant will be fine in time.

Never been convinced about Cordy though.

I would've liked to see how Cordy performed (we'll have to wait for Chris Maple's insightful report )
Could you elaborate Comrade on who the key personnel are? Have these players left the Club, injured or are there are number of injuries in Willy's Senior team and they have been promoted?

We don't wait long before jumping off out talls do we?

Grant, Everitt and now even Cordy are being questioned when they have so much development left in them.

Injuries are the culprit - Galea has been promoted in the absence of Little in the seniors and they really miss him up forward.

Shaw has been good all year and their ruck stocks look thin without him.

Rampe has also missed the last couple of weeks which has coincided with their run of bad form.

It only takes a few good players to be taken out of the side and the entire structure goes kaput.

Thanks for that. I actually thought that they might be missing more considering how much they have slipped.

They are missing more - almost 15 regular to semi-regular players according to one of their assistant coaches.

The 3 named are arguably the most important.
