    [QUOTE=Desipura;104104

Did you like Griffen's left foot snap goal last week? I did.
Don't forget what he has gone through the last 12 months[/QUOTE]

Can you remember another time where he's used his left? I must admit i almost had a heart attack when he got that goal, it's about time and i hope it's the first of many. I know he's been through a lot in the last 12 months(i can understand his pain) but i don't think it can be used as an excuse in not giving your all in a game of footy. Griffen just frustrates the hell out me, IMO Higgins as already gone past him and by this time next year i expect Ward to have done the same. Once this happens it's going to be hard for Griffen to get much of a go in the mid field.

I understand your frustration on Griffen (I have felt it as well). I had high expectations of him this year.
These days you need a number of players to rotate through the midfield. The more depth you have the better.

Off topic, can you please not put my name under one of your posts as shown below, thanks.

I had already typed my post before I realised I was being misquoted, hence why the copy and paste.
I think I might have a spell from here for a while.

I suppose the issue with trading someone like Cross or Griffen is that if we want a good player or draft pick that's what needs to be done. And it won't be popular.

If we were just looking to 2012 you could even put Murphy on the table if you're going to discuss Cross and Griffen. I've got a feeling that the crash and bash of being a de facto CHF is taking a toll on him - seems to get injured every season now.

It's a great point DR, and very simple. Want to trade for a good player, you have to give up a very high pick and moe to the point offer good players. What makes it more intersting is the 'next best available' selection because the end of that theory in fine print was, "even if we take a small, we can trade them if they are any good for a good tall". We all want a good tall, but then won't trade any of our good smaller players. This club, especially the members can take it excessively personally when we trade the likes of Monty or Cameron. Trades we didn't too bad with overall. Sucker trades like McMahon for 19 (Ward) shouldn't occur in the first place, let alone again. So if you want a good player, trade a good player.

As you also say DR, if 2012 if the realistic window, perhaps trading one of that vintage of Murphy, Gia or Gilbee who could get come currency on the trade market. But truth be told, if the GC17 reduces trade values, then we missed the boat last year.

Yes, and the contract status of Lake may clarify a lot of this when its resolved.

If he leaves and we get Sydney's first round pick (at the very least) then the decision is whether we say look to 2012 and try to get another first round pick by trading and do a mini rebuild, or decide that despite the absence of Lake we are still on track for 2010 and try to get a ready made player + Hall.

I vote that if Lake walks, trade big and mini-rebuild before GC17. Our ability to score isn't an issue, it's our defence and defencive pressure and if we loose Lake, the problem gets worse. So why let players in their prime go wasted while we wait for a new FB. If Lake stays, then it becomes a little murkier. As i'm not sure we have a massive room for improvement next year, that is, the sort of improvement St Kilda made this year.

Re: The Rookies, make your call.

Getting back on track, i tend to agree with the other Willi watchers.
                      Picken: Obvious
Daniels: I like what i have seen in him, with his pace he could be a very damaging player. Looks to have a natural football ability also but just doesnt put it all together very ofter at the moment. re-rookie/elevate.

Ogle: I have to say i have seen a great improvement in him over the last month. Was struck with injury and illness early in the year but has now over come this and looks to have put on a big amount of body size. although his kicking is still very shakey, you can see the improvement in his style which is a good sign. re-rookie.

Shaw: I can see what other see in him, he is a very good tap ruckman but the part of his game i have really liked this year is his ability to cover the ground and get plenty of the ball. Going to be tough up aginst Big Will, Roughy and Cordy but i'd like too see him re-rookied. Wouldnt be suprised if a club struggling for ruckman snatched him up before we got the change though.

Mulligan: A massive lad. And can run in stright line very fast! I have question marks over what he can do when he gets the footy in his hands, often trys to take on opposition and runs straight into a wall of 3 or 4 men from the other team and then doesnt know what to do next. But as a pure stopper i can see him matching it with the big boys at AFL level and if we had a few injuries down back he would be an option to come in and take someone like a Fev. Definately wouldnt shy away from the opportunity that for sure. Re-rookie/Elevate

White: Unfortunately over 2 years i dont think this kid has done enough. Good spped endurance combo but to me doesnt look like a natural footballer and doesnt find enough of the ball or use it as well as we would like.

Just a few thoughts guys, pretty much along the same lines as other posters.
Sorry if i had made any mistakes as i am a bit new to this whole thing!

Just on Mulligan - do posters think that Lake's decision have an influence on whether we keep him or will he adjudged purely on his output this year + potential?

Yep. I think if Lake walks, Mulligan gets elevated for sure. He's a FB whose been in the system for 2 years. We'd need to keep most of them, except Wight.

Physically and athletically, Mulligan looks terrific but he has a few flaws that I'm not convinced he will overcome. He isn't a strong mark in fact he isn't even a reasonable mark and his decision making and skills aren't good enough yet.

Add to this that he has had a few injury spells which means we haven't had a good enough look at him and the fact that when he does play he can't crack it for being one of the better players just aren't good signs for a senior promotion or even optimism.

Obviously I don't get to see him on the training track during the season but he would have to be a very strong performer but he seems to have Rockets stamp of approval and will probably get his chance.
To me, at best he would be a serviceable player perhaps in the Cameron Wight or even Andrew McDougall mould.

I'm not sure if Lakes departure would sure up a spot for him but if it freed up some money, we might need to make a play for a more established player. In fact I think it might work against him if Lake goes. With Lake in the side you can potentially bring in someone like Mulligan but without him, Mulligan would be monstered by some of the better forwards.
