SA belts WA despite Bennell's haul

The slippery conditions were expected to trouble the taller South Aussies, but they played what AFL talent manager Kevin Sheehan described as the state's "best half of footy" in the history of the championships

South Australian utility Sam Day showed glimpses of why he's regarded as one of the most talented players in this year's draft talent pool, with two classy snaps on either side of his body.

However, it was a relative unknown, Lewis Hender, who stole the show.

Hender, a bottom-aged player from Keith in country South Australia, starred in the first half, kicking four goals.

Good to see the division 2 sides living up to their usual standard. The SA win (91 points) was the smallest margin...given how much of a showcase this competition is, what about getting the BEST 200 players there, not just the best 100 or so along with a collection of guys who happen to have been born in the northern half of the country?

Harley Bennell has had two very strong performances for WA so far in the Championships. MJP, you must have had an involvement with him at Peel Thunder (I gather he's in the senior side now), what are the qualities he possesses, strengths and weaknesses and do you see him excelling at AFL level in the future?

He has performed well because he should be playing AFL now. He is too good for the kids running around playing u18s.

                              Strengths: Everything.
                              Weaknesses: Nothing.
Will he excel at AFL Level: Who knows.

If he can hold his life together off-field and remains injury free, he will win multiple Brownlow medals. If not, he might not even play a game.

Most talented kid I have ever had (and that includes Morabito).
