    Re: U/18 Carnival

Libba got a write up on AFL.com.au too..

    Thomas Liberatore
    16 May 1992, 182cm, 77kg, Calder Cannons/St Kevin’s College

It seems appropriate that, just 24 hours after Tom was born, his father Tony collected 41 possessions against the Brisbane Bears at the Gabba. Tom is a possession machine as well, if built along more slender lines than his father. A midfielder who’s ready to go, and is likely to keep on going.
I think he could come in next year if required. It gets me excited to think that Mitch Wallis is even better.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

      Is he?

We looked too 'alike' on Friday night in playing Ward, Reid, Cross & Boyd in the same team. From what I have seen of Libba (not a heap) he seems to be a player that has similiar qualities to these guys .ie. courageous, good hands, not quick, not a great kick.

I really can't see Libba pushing past these guys in the short team and perhaps with so many 'like' types we may have to make a tough call on one or more of these players.

Have to agree, in fact I made the exact same point a few weeks ago on this forum that we had too many similar one paced players in our side. Libba & Wallis were included.
I was suggesting that it would be an opportunity to perhaps trade off at least one of the above.

Ward and Boyd would not be the ones I would be moving on due to ones potential and the others leadership qualities. If we can improve our drafting position to grab a player that addresses our needs ie pacy onballer with neat skills or a crumbing forward, I would certainly look at it.

The risk being you could potentially casue disharmony within the playing group if you got rid of a club favourite.
As SS has often quoted trading is the work of the devil or words to that effect.

Injuries next season could play there part and it's good to have depth in this area.

What I like about both Wallis and Libertore is that they have a good defensive side to their skills and I think this will transition nicely to senior football.

Wallis could be the man who takes over from Eagle on a wing couldnt he?

I think Collingwood believed Braydon Shaw would be a 300-game player. Vic Metro u18 captain, performed well at the nationals etc...didn't work out. We just need to let these boys find their own way and all they really need to focus on is graduating to the Williamstown senior side in 2011.

Talks of trading based on what we think they might be is crazy stuff...

So true MJP i suppose we are looking at best possible outcome, but in saying that they still would need at least 1 year at Willy.

Wheels traded away Darren Baxter because he thought that Cameron kid might be good enough to play Baxter's role.

My memory of that was Wheeler wanted to have an attacking midfielder in the centre square rather than the defensive minded Baxter. Cameron was never a centre square player.

Nice to see Tom Libba named in the All Aussie team.

Fair call. Aside from the whole 'trading is the devils work' argument, I think there are a couple of spots on the list available for Libba and Wallis before we have to trade away Cross or Boyd.
