I hope Howard is one. I would have been looking at guys like Tape, Cripps or Newton.

All of that said, I like the F/S rule and am pretty pleased to have the two boys at the club.
We did that last year with Howard & Tutt, and Wood showed us he will be a good player. I would have said best available as our needs were addressed by trading, maybe a KPD to come through depending on our views on Mulligan, Boumann, Tiller & Markovic
If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

The problem with KPD's is that there aren't any. Watson would be great, but even without F/S I think we would be lucky to get him given where our selection falls.

I am not convinced we have enough run and carry players in our squad. We need some guys who can break lines and whilst I admit that Wood can do that he is not a high possession winner - at there best Hargrave and Gilbee are 20+ possession players. Tutt is supposed to be like that but he is miles off the pace - understandable given where he has come from...I am not sure Howard is really that sort of player.

Someone like Cripps would fit in beautifully.
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

The better KPDs of the last decade have generally been late picks/rookie selections anyway.
Lake, Rutten, Bock, Glass - Scarlett stands out only as a F/S pick, and even though Harry Taylor went first round he was regarded as a bolter of a pick, a needs based mature pick Geelong could try as they were well within their window.

          Great thread,

hard to be as excited about our draft given we have live picks so late

but glad the club has made the necessary decision on Hahn and will add hopefully the best run and carry players left in the draft pool

The fact that there are gun rookie list players ever year always give me hope with late picks

We to are well within our window. Only difference is we pick up a Markovic as a mature aged and Geelong pick up a Taylor.

If we didn't have father son picks this year could you see us looking at Isaac Smith with a first round pick?
We were interested in Jetta last year so we might now have broken away from always going after youngsters.

Given the opportunity, I have no doubt we would have looked at Issac Smith, good call GVGjr.

Yes, I think our recruiting philosphy has changed by bringing in more mature aged (and bodied) players ie Markovic, Djerka & Sherman.

We have delisted or traded players that lack intensity ie Ray, Power, McMahon and Everitt. Hill was another who lacks the intensity, so unless he changes his ways like Grant, he will not be with us in 2012.

We don't have the pick 17 Geelong did though. We may be too scared to look at a Kyle Hardigan type because of the existing pace issues with Markovic.

I see we have 3 picks in the draft after our 2 F/S picks. Can someone tell me of those 3 picks do we have to use 2 of them on our rookie upgrades?

                    Thanks in advance

                      No we don't.

We will add 7 players to our senior list.

                      2 x F/S selections (Wallis & Libba)

                      2 x rookie upgrades (Moles & Hooper)

3 x Draft picks (picks 75, 91 & 92) - I don't think those numbers are correct, but was taken from AFL website.

I believe those numbers are correct. Was originally 74,90,91 but with North taking their compensation pick, they all move back one spot. Might be some teams passing/using rookie upgrades before our picks so in reality they will probably be lower than that.

A few clubs will hold back picks for the PSD, but it seems to me that picks 59 (Gee), 63 (WC) & 69 (PA) won't be used (Geelong won't use the pick 59 they got from us for Djerrkura, why wouldn't they take pick 100?).

So pick 75 becomes pick 72.

                          After that:

                          73 - St. K
                          74 - Coll
                          75 - Coll
                          76 - Rich
                          77 - Ess
                          78 - Haw
                          79 - WB
                          80 - WB

Really? I thought so to after the initial reports of a very late pick that Geelong weren't going to use for DJ but we sent over a 3rd round pick. Seems strange that they wouldn't use it.

I think Dalrymple agrees with you considering the players he was interested in (Tendai Mzungu and Cameron Richardson). I believe we are also interested in Paul Puopolo another run and carry type, no idea if he will last to pick 74 though.

A Harbrow replacement would really be great.

According to a report in the Age, along with Essendon, we are interested in securing Matt Little. Be interesting to see if he goes in the main draft or rookie draft.
