I recall the same thing. Majak was always touted as a rookie selection and North used their 1st pick in that rookie draft.

There's still no reason we couldn't have picked him up if we wanted to. We knew North were going to take him in the rookie draft, and that our first choice was after theirs, so we had to just take him in the national draft. We picked Shane Thorne as a speculative pick at 76, it could have been Majak Daw just as easily.

I'm not saying it was right or wrong not to take him, but he was no less a risky selection than Thorne was.

Can't disagree with you on that one, especially when Thorne was delisted a year later.

I reckon we would have delisted Thorne in April if we could have.

With how much work clubs put in to the type of characters you draft how could we get this so wrong?
Why April? was it that evident he didn't have the work ethic or attitude?

Fully agree but I suppose the question about his ability to hold down a KP would have been a hard one to make the call on.

We intended to originally draft Moles and use our 1st rookie pick on Thorne but found out Collingwood intended to trump us on Thorne.

As it turned out Moles and Thorne swapped places within a week of the season starting.

We also should have drafted Houli, J Riewoldt, Pavlich, Hurley, Pendelbury, etc.
The kid hasn't made it off North's rookie list yet.
He might be a very good player at AFL level one day but there is a long way to go.
Maybe he has come a long way because reports I heard about him last season weren't that good.

Agree, wonderful goal but let's not get to giddy about one goal in a VFL match.
Hope he goes well and is a great endorsement for African kids to play Aussie Rules.
