If he can't grasp it, or better still if the penny drops for Roughead and he has the best pre-season of his life and commands the 1st ruck role, having Minno there to help bash and crash cannot be a bad thing. Cordy is simply not ready for an extended run in the ruck at senior level, and between Minno and Roughy they have the necessary flexibility to be dangerous drifting forward (at least more so than Huddo). None of us are expecting Minno to morph into the second coming of Polly Farmer overnight, but he can certainly be a competitive beast for us in the ruck next season and take a truckload of punishment that would otherwise be dished out to a couple of youngsters that patently aren't ready for this level of sustained punishment.

Its very debatable whether they are equally performed in the past. Minson had full seasons in 08 and 09 in finals sides. He even had 2 brownlow votes this season.
Even if you don't value Minson, at best we will be trading like for like here. The grass is always greener.....
Both very well put for mine. Minson has almost always had the trajectory as older style rucks who are at their best in their late 20s. There are no guarantees, but he's performed much better than most other 'marginal' rucks, and has been dominant at VFL level this year, clearly bog in a number of games I've read, just struggled with the Port rucks.

Re: VFL Grand Final - Port v Willy

Minsons biggest problem is he has hard hands, I have seen him many a time smash a pack and scatter them everywhere then drop what seems a simple mark after doing the hard work.
I do enjoy his thumps 20 metres forward in the centre, he might not beat the elite ruckman but the ones that arent as good he can take apart.
I think we need him due to his build as Roughy and Cordy would be a mess trying to ruck against the bigger guys, of course this pre season will be very important for them.

If you look at the video in the link around the 3.23 minute mark you can see what big Will can bring to the game, he would make a reasonable forward if he could mark on a regular basis.

I'll be the first to apologize if I'm wrong but Minson ain't going to get there.
I agree trading for Maric or Bellchambers is futile, I'd prefer Mcintosh.

So in a team that needs to 'refresh/rebuild' , you would take McIntosh over Bellchambers?

            That's crazy talk!

I get where you are coming from but the ruck position might be the exception especially if the other changes made freshen up the playing list.

McIntosh had a PCL in 2008, then North offered him for trade, then he sat out most of this season with both achilles recovering from surgery. From memory he only got back on the park in the later part of the year in the VFL and then played Norths' last game.

If it has not happened at 26yo, I cannot see it improving now.

Has this thread morphed from the VFL Grand Final to who should be traded, either in or out?

I think it may of happened once against Port Power when Roughead and Cordy were the ruckman.

In a team that needs a "refresh" why keep a 26 y/o who has digressed !
Regardless of having "hard hands" and dropping to many marks, He's had 8 seasons and has never performed at a consistent level. Just because he gets the number 1 gig doesn't transpire him into PollyFarmer magically.Sorry to get off Topic CD

Don't think either played against the Dorks.

If we seriously wanted to win those two games, i'm sure we would have played one of them, i think it was just the matter of giving Ayce a couple games.
I think it's quite unfair the way Minson has been judged on the grand final. Sure he wasn't as great as expected, but throughout the season we was probably the best ruckman in the VFL. You can't just count the 'it's only VFL excuse' for the his games and want him cut after his worst game of the year.
