Re: VFL Grand Final - Port v Willy

Going to be a tough one for me, as bizarre as it sounds i like both teams.
(Yes that's like saying you like collingwood and carlton)
I also barracked for Willy as a kid but when the allegiances switched to Collingwood I had to find myself a new side, and it wasn't going to be Werribee.
So as a close friend of mine was a huge Port man i found myself attending many Port games, entering the rooms and meeting players, and even playing cricket for Port. As Port have had such a lack of GF victories in recent times i'll probably hope that Port win and the bulldogs players do well.
It's going to be weird anyway. Why can't they both be winnners!

If so i might take a footy along never been on the ground at Etihad !!
Had you have been at the VFL grand final two years ago with Ballarat vs Bullants, the crowd stormed the field after the siren went and in true VFL style there were people all on the ground kicking balls to each other and crowding round the players. I don't know if it happened last year but it was something worth going for that year. I think I got to touch the cup and took photo's of Gerald Fitgerald and the Ballarat captain with the cup an other players.

It was just like football should be.

Might try and get to the game too - we are going to the Storm prelim on Saturday night, but I reckon we could fit another game in too!

I think $20 is pretty good value for a day's live entertainment.

I agree with you unfortunately, Panos has been pretty shabbily treated all year despite showing good form. If I were him and got dropped I'd be flthy, he's played a key role in setting up both finals win so far.

I can understand where you are coming from but I still expect him to play. I can't see how Cordy would get picked ahead of him.

He's answered the challenge this season and regardless if he makes the final team on Sunday he is now in a good position to get a promotion to the senior list

                          Hot contest on for flag

PORT Melbourne and Williamstown's premiership flame has burnt brighter since the arrival of experienced coaches Gary Ayres and Peter German, both of whom have strong ambitions to coach in the AFL.
Most doubted that even with Ayres's AFL credentials, that a stand-alone VFL team would be able to topple AFL-affiliated teams let alone compete for a flag.
                          Advertisement: Story continues below
While the Borough was no match for North Ballarat in its last premiership attempt in Ayres's first season in charge in 2008, it appears today is Port's best opportunity for a flag since its last premiership win in 1964, which came against Williamstown.
It was no surprise that Port skipper John Baird said during the week: ''Gary Ayres is the biggest asset that the Port Melbourne Football Club's got. What he puts in place at the club and the environment that he creates, I think makes a lot of players and a lot of talented players want to come to the club.''
Ayres, a five-time premiership player at Hawthorn, will be looking for his first premiership win today after failed attempts at Geelong and Adelaide. He believes he is coaching ''better than ever''.
Baird, who has been the backbone behind several victories this season, and Williamstown skipper Brett Johnson both won a VFL flag in 2001 with the Box Hill Hawks and are eager to captain a flag, perhaps with aspirations to retire on a fairytale note.
Baird said he may consider retirement after today and there will be question marks over co-captain Ryan McMahon and Cory McGrath, who have all been stalwarts of the team.
Certainly, the current Port is far different from the side that was the wooden spooner in its first year as a stand-alone club in 2006.
Port is likely to include youngster Josh Purcell for his first senior match since May or Callum Sinclair after being named on an extended interchange, while Matthew Grossman may also be included to provide some sort of X-factor for Williamstown.
Forward Adrian Bonaddio will miss out despite starring in Port's first final.
Although Port will start as hot favourite, mainly because it has been undefeated all season, Williamstown holds some of the aces in this one.
In their last encounter, the Seagulls showed they were within a kick of knocking off top-placed Port on its home ground. They made the Borough bleed and breathed new life into the competition.
They are a hard-nosed team, winning the inaugural Foxtel Cup in August and shrewdly managing their players, thus qualifying some extra Bulldogs for their finals campaign.
It appeared during the pre-season that it may be a tough year considering the departures that ripped apart their forward line - Matt Little (Bendigo), Patrick Rose and Dean Galea (Port Melbourne).
Although the Seagulls have 15 Western Bulldogs-listed players, including the Bulldogs' two best ruckman, Will Minson and Jordan Roughead, German is the first to note that the Seagulls have depth.

Is anything short of manslaughter considered legal shepherding on the goal line in finals? Anywhere else on the field a blatant shove in the back is free kick.
