Re: Williamstown vs Box Hill - Round 11
I didn't want Sherman out of the side when he was dropped but his performances at Willi do not bode well for a recall. If he gets back in it will pretty much be purely due to needing his pace.Comment

Re: Williamstown vs Box Hill - Round 11
Ah come on. Hooper has been a non-entity in the past and maybe will always be a VFL player but credit where it is due. Today was a squall, a dirty day, and I thought he applied some pretty good tackles and pressure.IMO Hooper is a bit like a VFL version of Gia/Higgins (superficial aspects aside!). Doesn't get much of it, not great with his defensive pressure, doesn't really crumb like a small but pinches a couple of goals from his smarts/cheating (I mean that in a niceish way!).You don't develop courage by being happy in your relationships every day. Nah Hooper cheats. His goals are over the top handballs or from turnovers.Comment

Also from peeling off and getting kick over the top.
I don't see getting goals from 'cheating' as a flat out bad thing. A lot of the goals come from him being smart. The issue I think is that along with Higgins and Gia, he doesn't do enough elsewhere.Comment

Steven Milne, Eddie Betts, Nahas ' cheat'. Don't see the difference. Laid some very strong tackles. What's not to like about those efforts?
A serviceable VFL game. Won't be in the AFL in any hurry but is an effective VFL small forward. You don't develop courage by being happy in your relationships every day. You develop it by surviving difficult times and challenging adversity. ― EpicurusComment

Actually I think Shaun and Gia have looked better than last season. It's bit of a funny comparison anyway. You don't develop courage by being happy in your relationships every day. You develop it by surviving difficult times and challenging adversity. ― EpicurusComment

Each of those are at least a class above Hooper and at least 1 other string to their bow include speed.
Not sure why we need to worry about effective VFL players, we play AFL.Comment

Re: Williamstown vs Box Hill - Round 11
I'm not going to advocate a Hooper recall but he gets a bad wrap for a perceived lack of defensive pressure. He's way quicker than Gia/Higgins and from what I can see, he chases and tackles ok.IMO Hooper is a bit like a VFL version of Gia/Higgins (superficial aspects aside!). Doesn't get much of it, not great with his defensive pressure, doesn't really crumb like a small but pinches a couple of goals from his smarts/cheating (I mean that in a niceish way!).
I like Pearce, though if he's to play on small forwards he needs to pay them more respect.
I think Jong has a future - bit to do but he has promiseFloat Along - Fill Your LungsComment

Because this is the VFL thread

Re: Williamstown vs Box Hill - Round 11
There is a place for goal sneaks at all levels AFL or VFL
If they apply defensive pressure and play for the team, who cares?
Laid some good tackles and played a role ( in the VFL ) similar to the one played by other goal sneaks in the AFL. Well done Hoops. You don't develop courage by being happy in your relationships every day. You develop it by surviving difficult times and challenging adversity. ― EpicurusComment
