Couldn't watch today's game so thanks to all of those who have provided commentary.

I managed to catch a glimpse of this evening's sport news and a clip was shown of a serious head high incident on a Box Hill player. From what I could tell from afar it looked like Howard could be called to account for his part in it. Again, I only caught a quick glimpse, so for those that did see the incident is Howard a chance to miss a bunch of weeks ?

So? Mr Obvious today. It's the VFL thread. A good job in the VFL is a good job in the VFL. You don't want to support the Seagulls, fine.

Looked bad. Hope he is ok. His hand was sort of sitting up, like the Jordan Lewis knockout. But funnily enough I don't think Howard will have a case to answer and there was no free kick in it. Just two bodies going hard at it.

        It was Daniel Pratt.
Any visible signs of Madjak Daw, in the vicinity?

I would be very surprised, it was a genuine contest and nothing that was reportable. Howard braced himself for contact but that is perfectly acceptable as far as I'm concerned.

Howard- kicked 2 goals but didn't have an impact

Skinner- got hands to the ball quite a bit but that's all
I agree with everything you have stated bar Howard who I thought made an impact early in the game with his run and carry. I was particularly pleased when he ran back with the flight of the ball late in the 3rd qtr to take a courageous mark.
He also laid the hip and shoulder on Pratt which resulted in Pratt going off the ground with concussion. I believe he is not far away from playing seniors.

I thought Howard was very dissapointing, sure he's coming off an injury but it's more that he'll do 1 or 2 good things but stuffs up the easy things or finishing off his good work.

For example had a paddock to himself and was inside 50, get the panics and kicked it out on the full. Also off 1 step kicking out of defence, another poor kick.

He needs to be all class if he is to earn his spot as he's not quick, he's not super tough and and he's not a tall, so he needs to have what others don't and that is a reliable penetrating and accurate kick.

I thought Panos did ok in the ruck for someone who's not a ruckman.
What annoys me is that Panos seems to get the odd jobs. Redpath was clearly struggling up forward, why not put him in the ruck to swap with Panos at times? Panos would of offered a lot more up forward and i want to see how he works in combination with Jones.

I've run this argument a few times but with a developing list I still think we have two rookies too many on the list and players have been shuffled around to accommodate the numbers.

Panos being given some more time as the key forward would be a positive in my opinion.

Agree with these views on Howard and Panos. I thought Mulligan was named as ruck?

That's not an unreasonable assessment. It seem his game was seen differently by a lot of our supporters. I'm probably in the middle, I didn't think he was bad, but at the same time I didn't think he was good either.

I'm of a similar view as Cyberdoggie, Howard's not overly quick, he doesn't provide line breaking run, isn't a natural defender, isn't especially physical, and despite looking like a neat kick isn't very effective by foot. So even when he plays a reasonable game I still wonder what he brings to the team as a player.

They could be, but I wouldn't take the way he's been switched around as evidence of that. Panos has been used that way for the 3 years he's been on the list, very rarely being afforded the opportunity to be the go to forward, except in finals. I've had this debate with GVG over the years, while switching him around might be necessary for team balance I think Panos has been given a pretty raw deal at Williamstown.

I think it all comes back to his attitude, apparently he's so committed to doing whatever is asked of him he'll happily sacrifice his own preferences for the betterment of the team without complaint.

I have liked what I have seen of Jong the few times I have seen him. He has plenty to work with.

Smith was really good early and was always going to be a bit of a mudlark. Reminds me of Paul Kelly a little bit in terms of style.

Panos looked good late getting behind the footy when the pressure was on. His best chance of making it might be as a defender. He probably doesn't have enough tricks as a forward but he reads the game well, kicks it well and is big enough. Might not make it but I think it is his best chance at this stage.
