I think we still need him but I heard earlier in the year that he didn't handle the news that he would be a sub well and that wasn't highly regarded by the coaches.
Is this really asking the right question? Does he want to be with us? This is the key question.
I looked at Josh Hill last night. He did not really want to be with us. Some players just only do well in a team that wins regularly and has the stars to cover their short-comings. Sherman would be kicking goals and pumping his fists off at The Eagles, or the Pies. We are a club that's a long, long way off and I suspect our profile doesn't feed a certain player, who seeks a certain amount of social capital.

I have a theory about players recruited from warmer states. They never perform quite as well and the cold is a real stumbling block for them. Just my theory.

Hill only had 5 disposals last night according to MMM- still has workrate issues by all accounts.

We have another 2 years to go with Sherman contract but from my view if we can rescue him he will want to be with us. If we don't think he is going to adjust but as a player and someone who devotes himself to the club then we should facilitate a trade.

Hill was a very talented player and has slotted in well with the Eagles. That long goal he kicked last night underlined his ability.

Yeah he is a very good player. Rocket always believed in Hill and I liked Josh, until one game I went to ( actually it might have been a Willy game ) where it was clear he just didn't do enough when he didn't have the ball. Downhill skier. To be fair to the club, the feed and opportunities as a forward he is getting at West coast are far beyond anything we could offer him, and to be fair to him, it's a lot easier when you have your family in the crowd on a regular basis, close to home and all that.

I hope you are including 2012 in your 'two years left' comment.

If we gave Sherman a 4 year deal I'll have to start another round of 'kill James Fantasia'.

Unfortunatly I keep "hearing" the same things up in Brissy for his time at the Lions, it's a shame he hasn't lived up to what he was showing early in his career, I was one to be a bit excited when we got him.

Not a great attitude for a player who hasn't exactly cemented his spot in the side.

When I first read your comment I thought it was a 3 year deal and have always thought it was a 3 year deal. I can't find any evidence to back this up though.

Hopefully it is only a 3 year deal, better still hopefully Sherman can turn around his fortunes with us.

Young Seagulls win thriller in Geelong

Williamstown has pulled off an impressive victory against a red hot Geelong team that was looking for their 10 th consecutive victory. The Seagulls notched up a 6 th consecutive win of their own as they consolidated 5 th spot and booked an elimination final date against the Bendigo Gold next Saturday. It was two contrasting sides that took the field with Geelong boasting 19 listed AFL players while the Seagulls had just the 7 AFL players present. Williamstown’s kids were asked to perform on the big stage with Anton Woods, Anthony Anastasio, Shaun Wyatt, Jack Charleston, Jack Frost and Dylan Conway all under the age of 20 and having played just 18 seniors games between them for the year. Vice-Captain Cameron Lockwood was also a welcome inclusion for the Seagulls, providing experience down back after returning from injury.

The pristine playing surface of Simonds Stadium was a far cry from the conditions at Burbank Oval seen in previous weeks, but a swirling breeze at the ground brought an element of home for the visiting side. Anthony Anastasio got the Seagulls under way by weaving his way through to goal to kick the first of the day as the Seagulls continued to show their appetite for the contest. The ball was moving quickly around the ground as both sides tried to gain the upper hand. Makeshift ruckman James Wall had a monster task ahead of him against Nathan Vardy but worked tirelessly all day to provide the likes of Justin Sherman, Ben Jolley and Ed Carr first use. Wall’s output of 25 possessions and 33 hit outs was vital to the Seagulls charge. The football was of a high quality as the Seagulls took the slenderest of margins into the first change.

The arm wrestle continued in the second quarter with Williamstown getting out to a handy 15 point lead before two Geelong goals from free kicks reduced the margin and had the visiting supporters extremely vocal. Brodie Moles was in fine form against his former Club, picking up possessions at will, while Nick Georgiadis continued to show the attack on the football that had impressed in previous weeks and he got his reward with a second quarter goal. The Seagulls managed to extend their lead to two points at the long break, with all spectators hoping that the second half was as action packed as the first.

Justin Sherman began to increase his influence on the game in the third quarter with 2 goals from midfield that sparked the Seagulls. Defensively Nick Sing and Jack Frost were holding down the fort with both young men performing impressively despite being outsized by their opponents. Jamie McNamara was providing a lot of run, whilst first year players Jack Charleston and Shaun Wyatt were showing maturity beyond their years with clever ball use and composure. The Seagulls were able to edge ahead ever so slightly to take a 10 point lead into the last change.

A frantic final quarter saw the ball move up and down the ground with great speed, while there was a finals like intensity around the stoppages. Captain Ben Jolley was inspirational in the middle on his way to 34 touches while Ed Carr’s desperation and tackling was first class. Williamstown could have had the game sewn up through set shots by Cameron Lockwood, Dylan Conway and Brett Goodes, but three consecutive behinds left the door open for Geelong and a goal at the 25 th minute mark brought the margin back to 4 points.

The Seagulls defended valiantly though and the siren sounded to confirm a 6 th straight win.

Nick Sing was named best on ground, however it was a true team performance with winners across the board. Williamstown will now face Bendigo in a do or die Elimination Final. The Seagulls will be hoping to reverse their Round 10 defeat to the Gold. The match will be played at Port Melbourne on Saturday at 2:10pm.
