He is a fit for us but will take time to develop. Not sure he will last till the rookie draft but he is one I'd be keen on late in the draft.

From all accounts he is coming from a fair way back, so expect plenty of developement needed.

Really enjoyable game the WA Vs SA one. SA a mountain of possession more but just couldn't shake WA.

Real shame about McCarthy and his leg. He looked pretty raw and would need a program to get his strength up to speed. He'd likely be rag-dolled against more mature state league defenders if he gets drafted. Those factors would probably see him drop down to early/mid round 3.

I think a bolter from the blue has been Clem Smith. The aboriginal flyer, bursting off of half back, has got the solidness, speed and endeavour of a Johncock/Rioli mix. He' be a late first, mid second rounder. Shame that he’s an under-ager. Has really impressed in the two games in the last week..

If Operation Tom Boyd fails then we could do worse find a place for Luke Reynolds. A roaming half forwarder in the mould of Scott Lucas. Funny the commentators said that as I was thinking about the comparison five minutes earlier. Mid to late second rounder at a guess.

Darcy Hourigan would be another that recruiters would have raised their eyes about. Playing out of the forward line he’s monstered his opposition, needs to work on his kicking though and lose a bit of puppy fat. He’s the same age as Matt Scharenberg, same height, but listed as 3kg’s heavier. If he’s 3kgs heavier then I’m the bloody Pope ! The difference between them is a few full-spread Christmas dinners.

Haven’t watched the second game from yesterday yet. Looking forward to it tonight.

Not convinced one way or the other yet re Reynolds, have seen him play a couple of matches and yep he's a bit raw, would love to see him play in a few other positions just to help his development and to see what he has got.

        Needs a haircut too

Darcy 'Rosy' Hourigan (not my pic)

I've nick-named him Rosy, as anyone who's seen his cheeks will attest.

Re: NAB Championship - Potential Spoiler

            Just watched both games
South Aust WA game was of higher quality
Really liked Luke Dunstan ( more inside type ) not for us. Aish looked like he cruised through and was getting tagged. Reynolds really reminded me of Scott Lucas in that hit up forward role. I was more impressed with Scharenberg last year, but think he looks like a guy who knows he's going early.
McCarthy is very raw ( butcher like) but awful luck with that leg, looks a good prospect.Clem Smith is one to watch he was impressive.Marsh was quiet as was Acres( coming back from injury)

Game 2 was a bit average in comparison
Billings was super ( Dal Santo Luke power like) Hugh Goddard ( Brendan's cousin) one to watch as a mobile defender. Kelly was good but not great, very classy though. Marcus Bontempelli was also impressive in that running defender. Hartung was noticeable for breaking the lines ( something we need)
A couple of small forwards also impressed Honeychurch, McCartney ( cracked in, only joking!) Impey also impressed as a small forward . Going to be a truckload of mids in this draft.

Gotta be honest that Sheed game grabbed me the most during the championships .
Inside outside skillfull. Take him at 4 in a heartbeat.

Agree Remi. Re: Goddard and Clem Smith, it's a shame they're bottom agers.

Acres was really targeted by the opposition. He looked very shaken in both games.

Billings looks like a little gem small fwd/MF in the future. Smart user and football brain.

Maybe instead of the AFL giving us a straight PP, we can take the best 17 year old and nurture them for the future.

Could you imagine the moaning if we took Sheed (ANOTHER inside mid?).

Really like Scharenburg, just a class player good size and excellent skills. Sheed had the game of the carnival for mine, just worked so incredibly hard and hit the scoreboard.

I'd be interested in Hartung- small but super quick good skills and takes the game on.

Tall forward options apart from Boyd- McCarthy was the pick of the bunch for me, looked a really nice player. Good size and a frame that could put it on.

I don't think Sheed should be regarded just as an inside midfielder. He is more than capable of being that run and carry type we need and is effective up forward.

He is a pretty good footballer.

Sheed is a half-back at AFL level - at least for the first few years.
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

Yep, I'd take Scharenburg over Sheed at this stage however. Both very good prospects, would be happy with either.

Maybe a little too modest for his tournament. Qld best, won BF in div 2 and made AA backline. Too bad he is not eligible till the 2014 draft. Will have to keep him in mind next year.
