    Re: Recruiting Rumour File 2013

Umm Libba is the player you hope to pick at pick 1, yet some are offering him as part of a downgrade. People really overrate draft picks...

          Re: Recruiting Rumour File 2013

I wonder if there is still a possibility of getting Patton with pick four.

1 - There is suggestion pick one is on the table because they really rate Kelly and Scharenberg.
2 - There's been a few reports that GWS have closely monitored Billings, and are big fans of him too.
3 - It could become a case of Boyd, Kelly vs. Boyd, Kelly, Sharenberg/Billings

          IE:

          Pick 1 (GWS) - Boyd
          Pick 2 (GWS) - Kelly
          Pick 3 (Saints) - Scharenberg/Billings/Aish
          Pick 4 (GWS) - Scharenberg/Billings

They know in all likelihood they will receive a top three pick next year, in a draft supposedly littered with some strong KPP talent. For the meantime, they have Boyd/Cameron/Tomlinson/Jacksch as options.

For mine, there is still a lot of merit in them exploring the idea of trading Patton.

When you say it like that, it's not unreasonable to think its worthy of a cursory conversation even at least between supporters.

Regarding our Crameri trade there is some talk that we will sweeten the offer with an exchange of 3rd round picks.

This has been floating around for about a week now, and I still don't like it. I wish we'd hold firm for once, seems like we continually buckle at the knees during trade periods.

There's something funny I don't get about the Crameri trade.

From our perspective, we think pick 22 or 28 or whatever it ends up is fair, and have allocated it to the Crameri trade.

So we're missing out on some potential trade action, but we intend to get Crameri so that pick is "spent". Fair enough.

But the Dons have lost their two first round picks and now are also missing out on potential trade action without our second rounder in their pocket now. Currently that would be the best pick they have.

I'm not saying that they would have got say Docherty from the Lions, but there are quite a few trades going through and the Dons are missing out.

Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. IMO the Dons are fools.

Don't mistake suggesting what it would take to get across the line, versus what people would do to get it across the line.

The trade offered up by me for instance, pick four and Liberatore to get pick one and pick 20 is perfectly reasonable to get the job done.

Right now I wouldn't do it, but if our list structure was different I'd consider it. As good as Liberatore is, his output is easier to account for than the output of fiercely competitive and competent KPF's.

There's a reason why very talented, very strong and very competitive KPF's are coveted. We can look at stats, we can look at any measure we like to throw at it across any team that is either well coached or poorly coached, but a competitive game strategy is a much less complex and easier strategy to execute if you have a reliable tall and heavy forward target (or more than one).

If you look back to our 2008-2010 period, you'd have to acknowledge we had a playing group being extremely disciplined and playing to an extremely complex ball movement strategy. The only reason why our strategy was so complex, was because our forward line lacked one KPF of reasonable repute, and another to take the heat off when the heat was turned up.

Ultimately our midfield wasn't hard and clean enough to execute the strategy, and we didn't feed our undersized forward line with the volume of opportunities needed to be competitive in finals against top four sides. But, would the pressure on our midfield to perform at such a high level have been alleviated if we had a decent key forward to simplify the strategy in the first place?

If we had such a forward or forwards, would we be able to take some cattle out of our midfield, but still get the job done?
                          TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.
