Depends if they have someone specific in mind around pick 30-33 that might not be there at 39.

Everitt is not going to get any better, and his best is around 20-25 on an AFL list. We all know he's not a key defender, which is what Carlton really needs.

I actually think the Swans have done well there. They will be under significant cap pressure so can get a good player at 32 someone will slip they are blessed.

Sydney would be pretty happy with this trade.

Everitt will play as the third tall who can swing forward. Jamsion/Henderson to take the KPF's. He's no world beater, but a decent player.

They'd much rather be afforded the luxury of playing Henderson forward as they have no key forward of any note. Jamison also gets torched by the quicker key forwards. They drafted Matt Watson as a key defender a couple of years ago but he hasn't come on - they still have key defensive holes down back that Andrejs' arrival won't fix. He's ok as a depth player and can do the 3rd man up job, but then anybody can really do this role (see Jason Cloke for evidence).

I think Everit's best position is as a tall wingman or running half back, he likes using his athleticism on the outside. Probably on the wing since he can kick some good goals from 50. (Can shank them sometimes too). He had a pretty good year in a top four side, so reasonable pick up for Carlton.

Why they basically swapped pick 32 for 39?

Silly IMO but that's Mick's problem now.

In the full picture they got

                  Docherty
                  Everitt
                  and
                  Pick 39

                  for
                  Hampson
                  and
                  Pick 32

I think Carlton can feel pretty pleased.
I would count that as Everitt replaces Hampson and does everything Hampson does (except bring Megan to the social club) with more on field flexibility.

That leaves them with Docherty and pick 39 for pick 32. That is a big win.

I think Carlton on balance have brought in more talent than they've let go, with a bit of impact on salary cap and minimal impact to their overall drafting position.

They have had just about as good a trade period as they could expect to have. Kudos to them, I'd be happy with performing that well each trade period.

Is Carlton's trades really that good ?
There must be a doubt on Thomas after two years of injury. The offer to Daisy of seven hundred dollars per years for 4 years would appear way over the odds. Everett has now struggled at two clubs. Is he going to be any better at a third?
Betts has been a good servant at the Blues in a forward line that struggles.
Dockerty is a good pick up and a further indication of Victorian born young talent wanting to return home.

Getting Docherty for Hampson is a great coup; however, if I was a Carlton supporter I would be wondering why we took a bloke from his second club who is tall but is not a KPP because he can't mark the football, is mobile but does not get to enough contests to win possession and who is a raking long kick but generally butchers it by foot.

To me Hampson bringing Megan to the rooms after the game would do more for the boys than Everitt will ever do on the field.

Everitt plays like a small but is compromised by being a tall and by being an Everitt.
