I have been talking to the club historian who has seen this photo before and has rejected it as being anything else than possibly a 1937 seconds photo. The only player he thinks he might recognise is the player on the right of the uniformed man (as we look at it) who he thinks resembles Horace ‘Tubby’ Edmonds who was 2nds coach in late 1937. But he believed the researcher appointed to identifying all Charles Boyles' photos has already rejected this as being a Footscray FC photo.
Personally, I have compared it to all my own team photos and there is no-one I can say I recognise. I don't agree with Twodogs that the player he pointed out is Vernon Banbury. I also cannot see the resemblance to Bob 'Stump' Montgarrett as suggested by West-dog. If this was a Footscray FC photo, there would be one or two players several of us (particularly the club historian) would be able to recognise beyond doubt. I think it probably isn't.

The other point is that if it was taken in front of the John Gent Stand, why would all but 2 of the Footscray team be wearing white shorts? I don't recall any team photos being taken wearing the "away" shorts.

I've gone cold on my Vernon Banbury ID too. Wrong era.

Do you think it could be a FDFL rep side?
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I can't tell. The club historian didn't have any leads in this regard either. Are we even sure it is the John Gent Stand?

Why is there a telephone box there? - or is that an ad?

Because it was back when people didn't need to call someone every two minutes and mobiles weren't invented yet.
