Just bizarre. Don't get me wrong I was an advocate for Fletcher getting a nod last season but not on last weekend's showing. Were they even at the game ?

Guessing Fletcher beat his man. Key defenders get less of the ball at vfl level, not as much chipping of the ball around the backline.
He had 8 disposals and 4 tackles for the day.

Goodes and Bontempelli lead the way in the midfield with 27 disposals each, 7 tackles and 4 tackles respectively.

Where do you get the stats wse?

Does Roberts' naming in the bests suggest that he might have his nose in front of Talia for an opportunity in the seniors?

I have been a strong advocate for Fletcher Roberts but he was ordinary yesterday as was Cordy which seemed strange to me that they were both named in the best players. Bontempelli and Goodes stood out with other good players hard to find.

Footy Live app for iphone and android has state league stats.

Apparently Talia struggled after getting punched in the face off the ball in the first quarter, might have a broken nose. Might not get up anyway. Heard that he came off with blood rule several times...

Honeychurch and Clay Smith had around 20 touches each. Honeychurch kicked 1.2 and Clay Smith laid 9 tackles..

Dickson 2 goals too. Posters were saying he was quiet, but 2 of our 7 may be enough to displace Stringer

If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

Only 13 touches but 7 tackles to go with two goals for Dickson suggests that he's working on the defensive game that the coaches asked him to work on.

Wow I use that app all the time, can't believe I never noticed they cover the state leagues too. Great find.

He's listed as sixth best on the VFL site.

I don't know how on gods earth those two could be in the bests.

I can't remember Fletch getting beaten by his man much. Thought his closing speed on the lead/contest was good and he spoiled well. Wouldn't say he was in the best, not would I say he was terrible. The ease at which willy were entering their forward line made it very hard for the key defenders but I thought he battled on manfully.

The VFL stats always list six 'best' players from each team. This means that the sixth best player in a team that has been beaten comprehensively may well have been the 24th best player on the ground. It sounds like after Bonts and Goodes, it would have been a raffle to pick four more 'best' players for Footscray. I guess Fletcher and Cordy were holding the lucky tickets.
