    what's the verdict on Lever?

Injury aside, the recruit that most suitably fits our needs?

Is he a genuine KPD? Not sure it would be wise to spend pick 5 on a Ryan Hargrave type, let alone one that has missed a year of footy with a knee reco
If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

We used the same pick on Stringer and he missed a season+. The 'type' discussion depends on their percieved contribution to the team. Ryan was a key figure in our backline makeup. With hindsight he'd have been worth a pick five with his years of service.

This is not to say Lever should be our pick at five. IMO there's a blanket that can be thrown over picks 3-12.

If there's a blanket over 3-12 Macca will Pick on interview, drive, loyalty and all round good kid traits and only he will know that one after the interviews, we can speculate on footy ability but if its that close that's the criteria he will take it on.

Sounds like last year - Aish was unlikely to fall to us, Sharenberg was the tip, Bonti a smokey.

Ditto the year before - Stringer was seen as a pick 15-20 in most phantoms, and Macrae bolted into the top 10 only very late in the piece. Grundy was the big slider in that draft.

Phantoms this year are lucky to even have one #1 ruck picked in the ND. Clubs are electing are to rookie them or get them from state leagues after they have developed

Macca said on radio he looks at 50% talent and 50% good person. If the guy is a dickhead but a exceptional footballer we won't get him and vice versa if he lacks a bit of polish but is a great person he will be over looked as well.
He said it all about striking the balance.

                    Re: Potential draft considerations

It's still a fair way off, but if forced to make a call today, I would suggest that Petracca, McCartin and Wright will definitely be off the table when we select, I also think it's likely Brayshaw will be too, but I'm not 100% convinced on that.

I'm starting to lean towards Durdin as the player we should select. I'm of the view he can develop into a good long term prospect, who may be capable of playing both ends in a true KP sense. His carnival was a little disappointing, but given the injury concerns he had prior I don't know how much weight should be placed on it.

I re-watched a bit of the carnival the other day, and subject to where we must select Zaine, I'd be pretty confident we can land another very good player with our second round selection.

It's really starting to shape up as an interesting draft.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Key defender Jake Lever still looms as a top-10 pick despite suffering a serious knee injury

                      Great interview with Jake Lever.

Could have represented Australia in Boxing but chose footy over it.

Apparently Durdin has struggled to get near it since the carnival. Can't comment on whether he's worth the pick but there are others who are much better performed.

Struggled to get near it during the carnival as well. If I'm correct only played one decent match (v wa)

Lever was highly touted last year as an underage player.
Was tipped to go early this season( before the injury obviously)

I think it's too hard to predict. Last year Aish and Scharenberg at this point were 'locks' to be taken before us, and this year looks less certain to me. Case in point is Goddard whose not been mentioned for months after being alleged to be in top bracket of kids, but a good finish and combine and who knows where he ends up. Might just be me, but I'm far from certain at this point.
