I like Tom Young. Reckon he reads the game really well, and his size gives the defensive group some flexibility.

Wood (with his athleticism) has probably taken Young's role for now, and I'd expect Easton gets back into the side soon and stays there - but I'm still happy with Young's posi on the list.

Admittedly I have only seen Footscray live once this season but I was very impressed with Young when I saw him. Looks to be a natural leader out on the ground at that level. Reads the game well, good organiser and spent most of his time cutting off attacks or positioning others to do the same.

Also noticed when the 3qtr time siren went he was the first to go looking for Clay Smith to console him (Essendon game). Spent a heap of time talking to the kids in that game too.

I feel he is very suspect in one on one contests unfortunately.

          That's his biggest weakness.

Perhaps, but occasionally he comprehensively beats his opponent and takes a grab that he never should have taken. There's good potential there, but probably more as the 3rd tall than as a key position player. He's one of those players, along with Sam Darley and Jason Johannisen, who we really need to step up and improve our defence (which, in spite of all the hysteria around key forwards, is undoubtedly our weakest area). Roughy will make a good long term key defender, and Easton Wood will be a good athletic defender who can play small and tall - but who will make up the other four positions in our defence?

Hopefully Roberts and Talia. Perhaps Prudden as a small defender.

Darley will find a place in defence I reckon.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I think Tom needs to be more of a running half back.

At the moment he's sort of caught between being a little too small for a tall defender in the AFL and a little too big/not fit enough for a running player.

He has shown at times that he can get the ball and kick a goal or two playing from defence.

Can make the odd bad mistake but like Wood he needs to be encouraged to take the game on a bit and I think his confidence will improve. I'm not giving up on him yet.

Young played a laudable game in our win against GWS earlier in the season. Then he had a bad one against the Blues and that was it for the season to date. He doesn't have the kudos yet to build up bad game carry over credits.
